  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another big TV AD Shot on Canon glass, GOLD COAST TOURISM

Kudos! Gorgeous! There is a lot to love in there.. including the owl shot @:38... I'm partial to birds of prey. :-)

amazing....i just watched it again trying to count how many great still ads could be pulled from that...i gave up....
i hope you charge going advertising use rates for the stills that were used? how is that dealt with beforehand? the client asks for x amount of still ads?

A fee gets set for stills side that are pulled from the moving footage. its a grey area for sure, especially with the client thinking that we didn't do any extra work to get those shots.
It's a messy point of discussion.

thanks for the honest answer....it is a grey area for sure....i guess it all depends how the fees are divided up, as long as the final number is ok, it all works out? this will get even more "interesting" with dragon, when the quality of each frame is starting to get better then DSLR...
regardless...amazing, inspiring work mark!

Jaw......hits.......the........floor. Dripping with feeling. Simply Epic.

No words.

Excellent ad, very fun to watch. Definitely want to visit now...

Ive done alot big spots this year... Only wanted to show about 3 of them. Alot of them get hit with the ugly stick by the client and agency... hey it's there money, they are allowed to ugly up there own ads. :) Thank goodness a few of them let me just go for it.

It never ceases to amaze me how many clients are keen to weald not only the ugly stick but the stupid stick as well. Mark has a well deserved reputation but many directors I work with do not have his status so get walked over by clients and sometimes agency. I am well aware it is their money and their projects but how many other proffessionals would you hire only to constantly overide their decisions? Do you tell your mechanic how to tune yoiur car, your brain surgeon where to make the incision or tell your lawyer how to proceed in court?

I am not naive that both agency and client need to keep Production companys on brief and not have directors veer off to make their personnal masterpiece but I rarely come across this. Instead the Ad is subjected to death by a thousand cuts as everybody puts their two cents in. Often creating a muddle and blunting the ads effectiveness. People cannot help themselves and exercise power because they can rather than trust that they have hired the right people in the first place. Probably the most annoying aspect is most "changes" are motivated by negativity and fear. As most people cannot contribute positive input instead you get the " ....you cant do that because somebody might think......" This is a process that guarantees bland and boring and does that sell?

It is frustrating to work on projects that initially are exciting and powerful only to watch them be whittled down to ineffective wastes of money. Most of this comes from the client but the agency are keen to keep the client happy in a competitive market and the client is simply not smart enough to trust their agency. But this is the way of the world so you suck it up and keep the cameras rolling in the best job in the world.

Amazing as always! I was waiting for the last shot to be of a little kid on the beach saying "I wasn't ready!" "RESET!"

Masterpiece Mark, really great!

Mark, I think Your vimeo link shows 1280p you need to go into the vimeo setting and swap is so it shows 1920 by default.
