  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing the RED TOUCH 7" @IBC14

Anyone notice any horizontal anomalies on their TOUCH 7"?

It would streak across usually close to top of screen and about 10 pixels.

Its not perfect across somewhat in an angle when it does show.

I thought it was going to show on the recording but it didn't.

Its intermittent too cant seem to replicate.

Super weird. Try a different cable for a shooting day and see if it persists me thinks.

Ill do that today. I havent cracked open the cable that came with it.

I was using an 18" LCD/EVF CABLE (RIGHT-TO-STRAIGHT) yesterday.

Using new cable so far so good.

Using new cable so far so good.

I interact with lots of folks on the production side and get weird phone calls from country X at Y o'clock. Often cables are treated the worst in the field. Ran over, crinked, tugged out, yanked, used to strangle PAs, etc.....

Don't know if it's the 18" specifically, but I would inspect it for any potential damage and certainly check those pins.

Also, a side note. I always inspect my camera after and before shoots and give it a good pampering. Connectors, REDMAG slots, fans, etc... Even the threads. I've seen mud inside Side SSD Module on set. A clean brain is a happy brain.

Thanks Phil for tips :)

Yea checked over and working fine on BOMB and 5" TOUCH.

Its intermittent so at times it works then acts up.

Todays shoot is good so far with the shorty :)

Anyone know of a US retailer that has this material at a B&M storefront?

Thank you very much

Fury

I think it's time to share the simplest and cheapest way to make a DIY monitor hood.

Get a Polypropylene Board, you can pick it up at most art supply stores.
It cost about $6, you can cut it in the shape of your desired hood with a box cutter.
Use two stripes of Velcro to attached it to the side and in the case of the 7" screen two screws on top.
Its lightweight, water resistant and its dirt cheep. I have cut those for every type of screen from 5" to 50" in less than 15min.
Oh and it folds flat.

Cheers. ///

Still looking for a plastic type screen protector for this baby.

I would die if this one gets scratched :(

Tempted to create a removable plastic shield for this.

Hi Brent, I contacted Red Europe at Pinewood and they said no 7" touch till end of January, you mentioned recently mid December
all orders would be completed.
Is there nothing that can be done about that? I've been waiting on ordering my Red Dragon package for some time and I've been losing
money on rentals in that period while I wait for the 7" touch to come through, I'm not getting an EVF so I have no way of operating the
camera till this arrives.

Please advise.

Do you have SIDE HANDLE and maybe a SmallHD or anytype of Non-Touch display?

That could work in the interim.

But yea I feel for you.

I'm getting a side handle for operation but it's more I can't see what I'm shooting. I would have to go out and buy something which would
then be useless when the touch did arrive.
I'm a bit annoyed because dates keep changing. Red Europe promised me two weeks after I placed the order for it back in November and on here Brent
said mid December so I thought it was sorted, when I'm telling potential clients I have a full red setup ready for Jan 1st it makes me look unreliable.

Not seeing what you are shooting is a bit of a problem.

Lets face it, who knows when your unit will really ship. After all these years Red is STILL not setup to give even remotely accurate timescales for manufacture through to shipping. One day... maybe?

Personally I would not wait. I would try to buy a used small hd as Eric suggests and then either keep it as a back up or resell it again.

The backordered part we have been waiting on arrived earlier this week. So, we have resumed shipping this week with that first delivery and we get another, bigger delivery of it next week. We are hoping to have all existing orders shipped by end of the year. But with holidays (see holiday schedule here) it may bleed into that first few days of Jan.

David, depends what you mean. If you mean nothing at all ships until mid-Jan, that would be inaccurate as we are shipping as we speak. If you mean, being completely caught up on all backorders, like in my post above, I think that is a fair, albeit conservative, estimate.
