Announcing Scarlet-W

No one is getting notified until next week, as planned, so don't be hitting refresh on your emails until then : )

Brent.

Are we still on track to have all MG Weapon allocated before Scarlet W starts to ship next week?

I am one of the early MG Weapon adopters and should have it by this week. Not sure how many MG adopters there are, but I wouldn't anticipate the first Scarlet-W's getting out the door until the very end of February which still fits within RED's February 2016 time table. I would withdraw the anticipation til then.

Can someone please answer this question:

After Scarlet-W ships, is it safe to say that Scarlet-Dragon HAS to have a price drop (presumably as well as other cameras like Epic-X etc, but for now let's focus on Scarlet-D).

The reason is. Scarlet-D brain is currently $14,500. It is a 5k dragon sensor that has specs inferior to Scarlet-W (worst framerate options, etc)

The Raven is $5995 for the brain and is a 4.5k Dragon sensor. The Scarlet-W will be $9995 for the brain and is a 5k Dragon sensor. So logic would dictate that Scarlet-D would have to be placed at $7995 right in the middle of those as its specs are directly in the middle, higher than Raven (at least resolution wise), and less than Scarlet-W.

Because my thinking is that if logic prevails and this is true, then the Scarlet-Dragon may actually be the biggest steal and best "deal" all around here at $8k bucks.

Can someone explain to me if my thinking is wrong and is Scarlet-D actually somehow still on par with or superior to Scarlet-W to warrant a price retention? Is it conceivable, and has it ever occurred before that Red would have an inferior Camera Priced almost $5000 more than a superior camera in the Red Store? (referring to Scarlet-D over Scarlet-W). Or am I missing something?

RED is much akind to Apple. When new products are released, very, very rarely is there a fire sale on preceding models. Perhaps there maybe some BT units available at attractive pricing, but categorically your logic would not be a good strategy to expect a deep discount. The secondary market pricing may be affected, but again I wouldn't expect anything of this nature from RED.

But what would be the reasoning then for an inferior camera in the RED STORE to be priced $5000 more than a superior camera?

And as for my Epic-X comment above I see that Epic-X and Scarlet-X are now EOL. I didn't know that. They are no longer in Red Store so I guess they are only available to be purchased used 2nd hand now

I'll sell you a Battle Tested Scarlet-D for $8k, not a new one :) And no, the Scarlet D is not end of life and neither is the Epic-D. We have a lot of customers with huge million dollar capture infrastructures built around those cameras and they continue to buy and use them.

We have a pretty incredible lineup right now across the board that is pretty unbeatable along every step of price point.

Well just to clarify

1. I did specifically say Epic-X and Scarlet-X are EOL, ofcourse not Epic-D or Scarlet-D those are the bread and butter still flagship cameras

2. $8k battletested Scarlet-D is a great price. But I'm assuming you're talking about right now. I wasn't talking about right now. I was talking about 1-2 months from now when Raven and Scarlet-W are released. 1 month from now when Scarlet-W is released at $9995 brand new price, then $8k for Scarlet-D battletested is not that great of a price considering a brand new superior Scarlet-W is $9995. I'm trying to figure out what the Scarlet-D price will be reduced to when the Scarlet-W comes out.
How can the Scarlet-D which is inferior to Scarlet-W, be priced $5000 more than the superior Scarlet-W?

Scarlet-W brain $9,995 (superior camera)
Scarlet-D brain $14,500 (inferior camera)

?????????

Forget the tea leaves, buy the Scarlet-W. Unless you have a pre existing reason to add the Scarlet-D to your lineup, the way to go is forward.

The cameras don't just drop in price as soon as we release an updated version.. we price our cameras more honestly than that.

The price goes down when they are cheaper for us to make. The price goes up when they are more expensive for us to make.

For example, Weapon MG went down in price because we lowered our costs . Raven on the other hand will almost most definitely go up in price ( for new orders ) because it is costing us more to make.

... technically speaking, Scarlet-Dragon has a 6k dragon sensor (12 FPS). They are good for 6k stills + 6k timelapsing ... supporting the Epic Dragon main camera ... ;-))

My guess is Wednesday. At the earliest. The indications given lately have been that it might not be until closer to the end of February. But of course, who knows?

I still wonder who use the 6k stills option on the scarlet-D. Extracting some grabs from a video is interesting, but 6k on the scarlet-D is only for pure stills. Take any still camera and it will be better. No blackshading thing, FF35, real still camera functions, fast AF etc.
I didn't read any reaction to the fact that the scarlet-W will not have a 6k stills function. It speaks for itself.
With a scarlet-w costing 9950$, 2x more powerfull than the scarlet-D, with improvements almost everywhere, better image, wifi, new body, autoblackshade, HFR, mic etc., I think we'll see used scarlet-D for 6000$ very soon.
