  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Why buy just the brain? Unless you already had 3rd party options in mind, or plan on waiting to see what people decide to sell.. I'm confused what all the worry is about

well for one thing i know a 120gb was not something that did me any good, i also use gold mount batteries, as well like the other person said the mentioned i/o in the basics pkg had no specs.

If you have a large stock of Anton Bauer Gold Mount batteries and find yourself not doing the Element Technica AB-Lock plate there are V-Lock to Gold Mount adapters out there to be had between $80-$200. I always keep a spare one of those on set just in case. Not a perfect solution, but a solution in the interim if you plan on getting something more robust at a later time.

Seems to me they have a BUNCH of options for all types of needs for different shooting styles. I'm pretty psyched about all the thought that went into these new accessories, the new dsmc is going to be lighter, smaller, and has incredible things that people have been asking for like built in wifi, prores, built in mics, what ever the list goes on.. To power my epic properly costs about $1000 not including batteries.. These new accessories are more streamline, and appear to be better quality, with no extra Lemo cords dangling around from v mount adapters...so again, hehe what are we worried about really? Also they still maintain they are coming up with some other package ideas.

What is the compression at 4Kws@150fps?
Is it better or worse than 4Kfull@120fps?
Thanks

Wait, has someone confirmed that Raven will shoot 150fps in 4k WS? That would be excellent.

that definitely might be the answer for me, thank you.

I wonder what this new path is and if there will be a mid level option cheaper than MG? Since weapon is a new tier of cost I wonder how many will go for CF? Vs MG or raven the market segments this time around will be very interesting to watch

how much will this vlock expander be???
Peter, Lots of good info in the thread, but I think even a few pages back it was mentioned to be below $2,000 I think.

I would guess $1950. I wrote $2000-2250 in this thread earlier and Brett said if I was playing Price Is Right, I was a touch over.

Looks awesome, though. I just wish it was available to order prior to when the Raven launches.

Phil, how are you powering your weapon? RV XL's?

I think the question is...

A lot of people just pre-ordered the brain. That's all well and good, but they may also want the V-Mount I/O plate that doesn't come out until March (whereas, the Brain itself comes out in Feb). So there will be a month or so period where people are waiting for the I/O w/V-mount piece to ship, and have a brain that is essentially useless as it can't be powered on.

That's the issue. You could go third party, assuming something is out by then, or you can buy a different unit from Red, but then you're stuck double buying or whatever.

I'm just concerned that I will have the brain in Feb, and can't turn it on until the piece I want to buy (the V-Mount I/O) comes out in March. Had I known that was the case, perhaps I would have pre-ordered that bundle...but I jumped on the Brain pre-order so fast because of how the Scarlet queue played out. Wanted to get in fast!

i guess what im saying is the base I/o package comes with the v-mount.. I'll simply take my package complete when it's ready... The reality is, these new dsmc brains just aren't the same, my feeling is people who ordered the package will get theirs first? Doesn't make much sence to buy the brain then buy the I/O at full price..
you definitely save money with the package

I originally jumped in on the brain only when this caught me by surprise checking in on that Friday. I wasn't sure about the package because I didn't know if I wanted the 7" screen instead. Then I asked my rep if the package was actually cheaper, and he said it was (later posts on here about the price of the V-lock expander confirmed that). So on that Monday I had my rep swap me (and my place in line unfortunately). My order number was only 700 or so different IIRC. So that's not terrible. Who knows what it'd be now.

My rep confirmed that it was cheaper. I don't know how much cheaper exactly, but it looks like it might be around $1K or so with the price of the V-lock expander. I seem to remember thinking that it basically made the 120GB mini mag free or something like that.
