  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

That.. but more so manufacturing bundles gains a known quantity advantage that makes a price break viable. Breaking or swapping parts out of bundles causes a two way issue... The qty of whatever items in the bundles go down ( and in turn gets more expensive) and the qty of the non-bundle items goes up which when unplanned for creates a scramble for forecasts and inventory.

But we do have some time to add another bundle to the mix if you guys can all agree on what you want that bundle to look like... You should discuss amongst yourselves and then someone start a poll.

Understood.. I can deal with the 4.7 touch, but the 120GB would almost certainly collect dust and become a paperweight. Having just sold the c300/c100 setup, I was constantly shooting prores HQ/220x to 4x512GB drives. Rarely shot them to capacity but it did make life a lot easier not having to worry about it. Let's get that poll going with a few more mags.. Maybe 2x512's or 4x240's?

Should I keep my pre-order locked in and transfer it over to a new package? Should one become available of course

i have one Qus..!
how is the output quality REDONE vs REDRAVEN ? I think R1 better than raven, because Redone 14Mega pixel Raven 8.8Mega Pixel,
I think just deferent Wight and frame Rate Right?

Thankz

Maybe I missed it somewhere in the thread, but would it be outside the realm of possibility to have Raven come in a Micro Four Thirds mount?
To be able to use a Speedbooster to create a closer to full frame look and increase exposure by a stop would make this camera even more killer!

Will the RAVEN come in different lens mount options? I find it surprising that RED has decided to "back" a specific brand and not make it flexible. How hard would it be to offer the options of different lens mounts?

I used to shoot Canon Ls but man, there are a lot of options out there, even for the independent filmmaker shooting on still lenses. I understand the demographics and market share they're going after, but as a Nikon user, this blows.

Guys just appreciate the camera for what it is and stop asking for more!!! Cant please everyone eh!!?

Jae is so right. The Raven does not check every possible box. At a $6K price point ($10K shootable) something has to give.

Be happy for what it does do, and IMO, the EF mount was the best option they could have chosen and the solid locking version of EF RED designed is an excellent mount.

Cheers - #19

As Jarred said earlier in this forum, there are far more EF mount lenses out there that are not Canon. Tokina, Rokinon, Sigma, Zeiss ZF to name just a few. And, he mentioned that the locking system for this mount is the best one made to date.

Also, it's very easy to buy a decent adaptor that goes from EF to Nikon. Or, have, for example, a Zeiss ZF converted via Duclos or other third party.

I think going back also to what Jareed said about packages and discounts, it makes sense that this applies to committing to one type of mount right now. It comes down to quantity of certain orders, which then dictates price. If all the Ravens are made with the same fixed mount, their production costs presumably come down overall which in turn offers us an amazing 4K camera, with insane features, and yes, a canon mount, for the low price of $5950.

I'm sure there could be an argument for costs even with swappable mount, but again, if they know they're selling all EF on this one, vs. having to manufacture more varied mounts separately, it may in the end cost them less. With as many Ravens as I can imagine they're going to be selling, I'm sure it adds up.

I have had Canon EF mounts on my last 3 cameras (Epic Dragon, Scarlet Dragon, BMCC) and I have not used a single Canon brand lens on them. I've used all manual glass w/ Nikon lens mounts (Zeiss, Sigma Art), plus adapters, and one temporary Rokinon that happens to have an EF mount because I found it for a bargain.

Two questions here:

1) I am from Czech Republic. And when I order the Raven can I pick it up personally at RED Digital Germany in Berlin in February?
2) I am a bit confused with VAT and import duty etc. When I pay the price for the brain in euros plus VAT the camera came to UK. Do I have to pay something more when camera is sent from UK to Germany or Czech Republic?

Thank you very much for help

RAVEN interface is the same as WEAPON.

So .... all modules for that will work on WEAPON will work on RAVEN.

So ... as long as the module has a CTRL/RCP on it - it's all good - WEAPON or RAVEN :)

Great.

Just specifically curious about if there is a CTRL "Lemo or similar" port on the Raven body, like on the Epic/Weapon.
So now (just to be clear) talking about "base hardware interface".

I guess both networked and serial interfaces can be reached through a "multipin" on Raven, but that would need an extra module to reach them.
If question is vague... or unclear... then I guess it is. :)

Simply: Does Raven come with the "CTRL" and ethernet ports?
