Announcing RED RAVEN

Jarred and the RED team,

THANK YOU for releasing this camera. Just Brilliant! Now I don't have to fuck around thinking about Canon or Sony bodies for the jobs we've been shooting on 5Ds (read, lower budget). Now we can have four cameras all sharing a common base of AKS, media and codecs. I can configure them anyway we need for job requirements. I can standardize my workflow around RED. And they are a perfect destination for our Leica R sets :) For higher end jobs, we'll have our two 6K weapons with PL mounts and cinema glass. Perfect!

Rock on guys!

M

Given RED's pattern and their stated policy of alternating upgrades - sensor then body - the answer is almost assuredly YES. IMO, there is no way they'd have released a Weapon-style body that couldn't get a sensor transplant later; just like Weapon.

Asked this earlier in the thread but never got a response. Maybe someone can chime in:

Would it be possible for certain accessories to be subtracted/added to the i/o package and we just pay the difference? As others have said, I would prefer a 512GB/7" touch vs the 120GB/4.7"

RED has been pretty clear and specific on their packages in the past; not too many substitutions allowed that I can remember. I wouldn't count on it, but you never know.

I think that asking for substitutions in the package contents is unfair to RED - it's a, you know, package.

As a community we could encourage them to offer a couple of more package options than two.

Perhaps a doc/event kit that includes 4x 240GB mags for $12,500 or whatever pencils out for RED.

Cheers - #19

While I do expect the Weapon brains to be ready for the next generation sensor tech, not sure it makes sense for Ravens due to the 140MB/s data rate cap. Beyond that, does it make sense to upgrade a $6K brain with a new sensor? I'd be inclined to just keep rolling the Raven Dragon 4K until it fell apart and just get a whole new camera if I wanted the newer sensor tech.

i rushed to order the IO base but now that i realize I'm shipping a month later i wonder if i can either take delivery without IO or swap lines to something that doesn't hold me up a month without losing my spot? my initial deposit taker said no substitutions or partial shipping but idk i might just cancel the order outright then and just do weapon I'm not really sure yet anyway

Unfair? I don't quite understand how someone willing to shell out more money then the package price makes it, unfair to RED. If anything I would say its in their best interest. All good either way, if accessories in the package can not be substituted, I would at least expect a representative to respond so I can cancel the IO package and just order everything separately. Not concerned about price or line position, just need an answer :)

Hi Leo,

How the packages are bundled are preset, there is no customization. Lots of things go into consideration when doing kitted packages:

I can't tell if I'm more excited for the Raven or for all the new Red Users who will get to grow into their new RED's. :)

I can assure you as a college student, all money saved from this point on will be going to one of these.

I suppose my perspective is that offering a discount on packages is partially due to the simpler transaction created with a unique SKU and less personnel time to help a customer figure out a kit, etc. RED is willing to pass on some of those savings. Once you start making changes then they need to get the ala carte prices. That's why I used the word unfair.

Excited to see what you'll do with it Gianni!

I dont mean to cause panic but if you havent gotten a confirmation about your preorder by now i suggest you email your rep. Apparently my pre order did not go through eventhough the $1 credit pre charge did. Just a heads up for you all.

That.. but more so manufacturing bundles gains a known quantity advantage that makes a price break viable. Breaking or swapping parts out of bundles causes a two way issue... The qty of whatever items in the bundles go down ( and in turn gets more expensive) and the qty of the non-bundle items goes up which when unplanned for creates a scramble for forecasts and inventory.

But we do have some time to add another bundle to the mix if you guys can all agree on what you want that bundle to look like... You should discuss amongst yourselves and then someone start a poll.

Hello everybody. I'm new on this forum. I have some questions about Jetpack package. Maybe somebody could explain me.

First, I don't see in the Jetpack Package the 1-Year Standard Warranty. Is it normal ? Maybe it's an error ?
Second, How works the battery system on the Jetpack package ? I don't understand exactly.

Thanks a lot and have a good day.

my understanding is that package has a battery belt clip, a piece of gear i happen to already own and use on my Dragon. Its got a very long 4 foot or so cord to a V mount plate u wear on a belt. another thing i like to do is bring an extra belt and put it around my sticks. this way I'm not married to the camera constantly and then wondering where to put my belt clip if i want to wander off to crafty or some other super important side mission...

i bought it mainly cuz I'm cheap not cuz of any form factor utility and its a very cheap V Mount system for red, from what remember the cheapest when i bought my scarlet...

I'd wait a bit until the newest modules/handles are all announced and in the store.

We've got like 5-6 months…

Problem is there's so much to consider: 7" vs 4.7", Mini-Mag size, power solution and handle (cheap, or with added functionality?).

Also be advised that the price cut is a nice, but not really budget changing 5.5%. If the package doesn't include exactly the items you would have bought anyway, it's probably better to buy separate.

I might be off, but I'm Calculating the i/o package to 10500 retail and 9950 as offered.

I wish RED would just offer the 5% for whatever items you buy above $10k, but that might not be possible as it would be hard to know the exact volume.

UNLESS you play it like this: settle on a package before Dec 31, agree to non-refundable deposit, and get 6% off any $10k package.

You feed it with 12V 2pin female lemo connector / cable, what ever you have in the other end of that cable is up to you. The cable can come from a Vlock plate, or pretty much any kind of 12V source AC or DC.

But Iḿ sure before this camera is out there will be plenty of modules to choose from both from red and 3party supplier.
