  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Two, we totally get the request on media. We spend months and months qualifying media for speed, reilabiity over time, the ability to handle our horsepower over long shoots without heating up so much you can fry an egg on them. It is not as simple as "the media option x can go fast enough for RED." We have a host of other requirements and plenty of media are fast enough, but just cannot check the other boxes.

We want you shooting with 99.99999% confidence in your media. Some shots are once in a lifetime. Do you want to really want to gamble there?

This basically sounds good and not necessarily defensive. Perhaps the difference between you and us is that you have the research to prove your point of view—to your credit… Even so, with your 3 base expanders and numerous handles (all good stuff) a case could be made for flexibility on the media side module too.

Not all shoots are created equal. Sooo many users just want to go film their buddies skateboarding/snowboarding/mountainbiking/surfing with their new Ravens. I bet many would GLADLY lose a shot or two if they could stock up on media for those 4k120 shoots at half the cost. Food for thought.

Plus—then the absence of a Mini-Mag station in the package would make sense again!! ;)

One more question, W**den Camera have rights to develop modules for Weapon? They come up with battery module last month. Is it legit?

Since WEAPON developing modules is opened up for third-party developers..
If the module is certified (if this excists), I don't know... (But I guess, yes... )

what makes you think that many filming skateboarding / snowboarding / surfing would "gladly" sacrifice a clip due to cheap media? Sorry but that's really insulting to many people in those genres. Many moments are critically vital and reliable media in these areas is an absolute must!
RED has almost always worked for me in the most harsh conditions (I only had to use REDundead once) and I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for reliability...

If I'm not going 330kph in a Ferrari, do I really need high performance brakes?

Not every Cfast card works in every camera. If I buy or rent a REDMAG, I know it will work, and it will not drop a shot. There's value in that.

Will Germany get same shipping as USA? What's your past experience?

Since some people are still figuring out the difference between camera prices and models I thought I'd share this table I just made. Some info might be wrong, but I can update it or add information if anyone finds it useful.

Edit: Fixed Scarlet Dragon's FPS and updated "Shoot-Ready" Packages

Good idea, Ces, and nice effort. The Scarlet Dragon max frame rates are off in your current chart though. Also, brains come with an AC power adapter included.
And for a shoot-ready package, I think most people would go with a Touch LCD instead of a side handle + non-touch. And to shoot for a full day, more batteries would be required and at least 512GB worth of Mags. I think Epic Dragon shoot-ready would run about $35K to last a day.

Please… Are you looking for a reason to get upset? You're making me hit a nerve I didn't even touch.

I'm talking about informal buddy shooting here. Lot's of people will stretch their means to get to Raven. As an owner operator, don't you keep the camera rolling? I'm sure for many, the learning process will be finding exciting things to shoot whether it be action sports @120 or their own scripts with friends. I'm just as sure that a large portion of those would happily use cheaper media when shooting for personal education.

Best of luck on your quest for cheap, unreliable media. I'll stick with Redmags...

Thanks Akin. I'll change the Scarlet Dragon Max Frame rates, must've copied it wrong and didn't notice. The Ac power is mentioned in some pages, but not in all of them so that's why I added it just in case.

For the shoot ready packages I wrote what RED has on their Store site as bundled packages and bolded it. But I can just separate the items and adjust the price accordingly

I'm pretty excited about it. Would love a interchangeable mount, bigger sensor, and at least 4.5-5K but what the Raven offers is great for the price. Maybe a few things might change and we get a interchangeable mount by February? Everything is subject to change. Either way I think I'm going to try to place a deposit ASAP. This camera fits and exceeds the needs and wants of most productions. Can't wait to get my hands on one!

I mean... if were just discussing what we'd love...

15k @1000 fps, clean iso4000, 5TB RED MiniMags etc etc for $3000

RAVEN beyond perfect for the price point just as is. :P

And when the skater pulls off some ridiculous trick he's been working on for months and runs over to his mate with the camera "with cheap media" to find out he GLADLY lost that shot.... Haha wonder how that would make him and Red look ;)

this might be a stupid question to many, but for someone that has only used PL mounted lenses on red cameras,
how do you change the stop on the fly with a canon still lens? obviously on my 5D it's a dial with clicks, which always bugged me.
but im scared it might not even be accessible while shooting.

just pulled the trigger on a deposit after sleeping on it to make sure my impulse feelings expire and i make a rational and sustainable choice.

im super excited, always rent reds but never thought i could afford the luxury of owning one until now :)

I've followed Red since they were "vaporware", shot a lot on the Red One, owned a Scarlet and an Epic.

In my opinion, for what I do (indie filmmaking), the Raven is the best camera Red has ever made.

- 4K Dragon sensor
- Redcode Raw
- WiFi
- Auto Black Shade
- High Frame Rates
- Light Weight
- Easy On The Wallet

Never mind Full Frame and 5k, 8k, 20k... this is THE camera to beat.

I completely AGREE with you. If it were not for the limits of frame rates on Scarlet-X, I'd probably still be shooing on that instead of having had it upgraded to Epic-X. Never felt as tho I needed Dragon, but Raven is almost exactly what I need. I'm not delivering anything in 2K, 4K, or 8K anytime soon (Not even for YouTube), so Raven may be the end of my Epic-X. LOL.
