  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Very tempted to jump back in to the RED family. Was a early adopter of a RED ONE back in '07. Tried to keep up with all the Raven posts, but not sure I saw much about the DSMC² Base I/O V-Lock Expander. Is this a new product releasing with Raven? What basic I/O does it have; audio/XLR? SDI/HDMI?

True, but Raven has Prores. Something Epic Dragon doesn't. And can auto-blackshade, which saves time. So for quick turnaround jobs, the $6,000 RAVEN may actually have a leg up on the $25,000 Epic Dragon.

Its a new world, and a new ecosystem, for sure.

I for one am jumping onto RAVEN myself (I placed a deposit within minutes of site going live). But RAVEN and Epic Dragon may at times (depending on the job) have more parity than one would think.

We are witnessing the Democratization of RED!

Yeah but Raven can't support PL mount lenses such as anamorphics... :-) I can always add ProRes, WiFi and even 3D LUTS to an EPIC Dragon... but a Raven is stuck in EF land with a more cropped sensor. The differentiation is in the ecosytem... not just the brain of a camera by itself. I'm also getting a Raven I might add.. but I think I have a good idea of what target democratic it goes for... mostly the producers/directors always calling me for a ridiculous low price... lol.

Listen, EPIC DRAGON is amazing. 6K, swappable mounts, swappable OLPFs, you can add Hotlink.

Its the bomb!!

Basically this with an integrated v-lock on the back.

I imagine around $2000-$2250.

Another nice disruption of the market. ... and my sleep.

Scarlet lead me to Epic to Dragon.
I fear that I will be doomed adding a Raven to my gear. But it is very tempting.

Very smart step.

There is a power adapter in there to run the camera without batteries :)
 
So any more announcement .... super tired from an all day shoot but i have to check in. too many exciting things happening here now a days.
