Announcing RED RAVEN

regarding 16+ stops of DR, any footage to watch please?
any plans for prores444? prores 4k?
is prores 2k crop or scale?
thx

so how would a man get a wide angle shot with this beast?

The original image is from a post by Jarred when he presents the new 4.7 monitor. But after a tip from Brent, he said "pay attention to the handle". It's a yet unannounced side handle.

The original image is very dark and you barely see the handle. I brought it into PS to lift the shadows, but obviously someone had already anticipated that move and made sure there was nothing to find—the handle is masked.

Damn. Thanks for the clarification. I thought that sidehandle + redvolt for the weapon/raven was just a rumor/wishful thinking lol!!!Damn Red is on a roll so glad I switched. Now please tell me you ship to military APO because I deposited without asking hahahaha

Red bashing for no good reason isnt productive heh.. but hey everyone is entitled to their opinion, I think most people see the benefits to this camera. For my part, i look at it as more than a new camera. This tool will bring more people, younger people (i think someone mentioned they were buying it for their son, as i will prob give my son mine when he is old enough) into the world of digital film making, and that is very exciting. More experienced PEOPLE make content better, and makes life on set easier. i think RED has done something that will set a new standard for ALL Projects big and small, and i am loving the idea that "the right tool for the job" absolutely applies here. if you don't like this offering, please purchase a BMD product and get back to me on how that's going for ya~

Wasn't trying to defend the guys post or the merits of the camera(I'd personally love to have one). I get why it would upset people who work hard to get a complicated product to market. My gripe is when the leader of this forum asks someone to keep their mouth shut. I'd hope this place is for open conversation, both ways, and most of the time it is. Clearly that's not always the case as my comment was deleted.

To be clear, I think RAVEN may be one of the most transformative things RED has ever done.

Gotta tip your hat to RED.

They started as company that REDEFINED INDIE cinema.

And it looks like they've done it again.

BRAVO.

More people being able to make amazing imagery...is always a good thing.

And being on the ground floor of a revolution....priceless.

Should have been s35 sensor, but i understand, to get these "affordable" frame rates in 4K, one must have smaller sensor-which will screw up my wide lens investment. MFT Mount with MFT size sensor would allow me to use speed booster and fast Voigtlander Primes.

I hope red can come up with some sort of speed booster for this camera, I would help a lot on the wide angle end, but of course if its possible :)

Obviously this has been a passion project for red for a while, i can see why a simple comment could be taken personally by one of the architects..I don't think its worth getting upset by haters tho, not worth it -_-

Shoot on a 16mm prime? 4K is just a shade off Academy 35. I have a 16mm T2 Standard I had fortuitously converted to EOS...is going to look LOVELY on RAVEN.

... and would not be that more intelligent to use s35/full frame lenses with speed booster and having 1 STOP more light?
BTW how is low light performance on Raven?

thnx nick for the information, I'm glad theres a way :)

There is sooooo NOTHING to complain about in all this! There was a time when you wanted a RED, you had one choice and paid $17.5K for the body. And that was a great camera and a great deal.

Now you have multiple options; various sensor sizes and resolutions, multiple battery capabilities, a full line of accessories. You can shoot any number of different lenses and can even get some really high frame rates. You can get 16+ stops of DR, have HDRx and choose REDcode or even ProRes. I am even quite sure RED is not resting on its laurels as we speak. There will be more and it will be even better.

WTF? What am I missing? Just because you can't have every option in every camera, today, you feel cheated?

Geesh.:banghead:

I don't get audio specs and connectors. To plug a shotgun mic I need the minijack of a base I/O module, correct?.
Where do I connect a second mic?

I think many of us Epic Dragon owners would really consider jumping over to Weapon MG if the price were lower.

I really wish the upgrade price from Epic Dragon was $10K (with all credits and discounts considered), I'd jumped on that train in a heartbeat.
