Update: When new videos are released, we will post them here on this thread. You can skip ahead to the last page of this thread to see 'what's new' at Digital Cinema Lessons, and add comments, tutorial requests......

Hey everyone. We at BLING Digital are very excited to make the official announcement here on reduser that www.digitalcinemalessons.com has launched, and is now live.

The site is an ever growing database of video lessons on all things digital, with a heavy emphasis on RED. We have put together a group of Red all-stars as the instructors. In no particular order, you will now be able to learn from:

1. Brook Willard. Possibly the busiest on set RED tech in the world.

2. Michael Cioni. Given more RED workflow lectures than anyone.

3. Steve Sherrick. The man who puts together the AMAZING reduser events at NAB that we all love so much, and a great Red Tech.

4. Kaku Ito. A RED Rocket™™™™™™ pioneer. Our first international instructor, he will be teaching in Japanese.

5. Mark L. Pederson. Who the hell is he? If you don’t know the founder of Offhollywood, get out from under that rock! Owns RED #6 and #7 (or 1 and 2 if you don’t count Jim’s).

6. Jeff Kilgroe. Hardware guru. Over 7,000 posts on Reduser.net.

7. Blair Paulson. The man who brought the Road Grader to SoCal, and owner of RED #19.

8. Jesse Korosi. A Bling Digital wizard who you don’t know.....yet.

9. Steve Gibby. Will teach you how to travel lean and mean.....with a RED. Owns RED #8 and two other very early REDs.

10. Obin Olson. Nobody knows ADOBE workflow like this guy does.

11. Jason Diamond. AVID workflow master. Red-to-AVID-to-RED.

12. Chris Parker (me). Worked the 57-RED-Camera NIKE shoot.

Our goal is simple. To expand the worldwide knowledge base for Digital Cinema Workflow. For starters, think of it as an online video manual for all things RED.

We will be offering a wide variety of video tutorials, 6 - 10 minutes each. Since the information/techniques in this new digital world are changing so fast, we have decided to keep costs down for users, offering the tutorials at $3 each. The goal here is to offer users the ability to come back often and stay current on all things digital, while being able to choose very specific topics that are of use to them.

One point I’d like to add is that we are huge supporters of other educational programs. We feel our site will simply compliment other amazing training resources out there. Reducation is a great example. In fact, Bling Digital has sent two staff members to each of the first two events (with space for more booked at all future events), giving Bling probably the highest number of staff that have been through that incredible program (if you can swing it, we HIGHLY recommend reducation). Noah has released an amazing book. I bought one, and it’s awesome. Jay is about to hit us all with a great DVD. Finner has some great vids on his site. FXPHD is fantastic, and I completed three terms there. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Personally, I learn best when I see how a few different people tackle the same task. We hope we can be another good resource for your training.

Anyways, rather than ramble on here, I suggest you pop on over to the site at www.digitalcinemalessons.com and take a look around. You can register for an account and start downloading videos anytime. There are only a few videos on there right now (all from instructor Jesse Korosi), but check back often over the next month and you’ll see lots of exciting new videos coming online from all the instructors.

We hope you like it.

Sweet!

Very cool, indeed.

Love the "trailer" with inspiring lighting set-up. (That would be a very cool bonus feature if we could see the lighting setup to all the future lessons.)

I am naturally especially looking forward to the insights to be learned from Steve Gibby.

Have you also pondered the idea of a subscription model, i.e. pay x dollars per month?

Very Nice..

Great idea!
I would like to see some green screen shooting pointers
and real world examples using After Effects.
Thanks

Wow, wonderful! I live on video tutorials! Your pricing is really great too...I use a few other sites nearly daily that run $25-$30 a month (Lynda, VTC, etc.), so the pricing seems extremely competitive. Looks great, bookmarked!

thanks for the positive feedback. we are going to keep pricing this low, as we want you guys to be able to come back often. we are not planning a subscription-based model at this time.

everyone involved in this project is not 'in it for the money'. as you can see, we all have our own businesses, the 'day jobs'. we feel that collectively spreading information to increase the worldwide knowledge base of digital cinema workflow will help all our businesses do better, as we thrive on this new digital technology.

the first couple of months should be exciting, as LOTS of new videos will be coming online.

Chris has done an excellent job putting this all together and has been very open to feedback, so expect it to get even better as time goes on. As Chris mentioned, there are many resources now becoming available for training on RED and the need for training will only increase as the new cameras hit the market.

I am happy to provide whatever help I can and this will be a great place for me to learn as well. That's what this is all about. To me, it will complement REDUSER very well, as a place where lots of information and tutorials are centralized and fortunately the cost of that information will be relatively low. So, a win-win for all.

I should have some videos up by end of the week. The first one will be about using R3D Data Manager on set.

Thanks again for doing this Chris!

I feel the same about this as Steve, DigitalCinemaLessons.com should complement Reduser.net very well.

My first video deals with archival and backup options, LTO on the desktop and comparing some of the various technologies that are currently available. It's one of those topics that keeps popping up on the forums here. I'll be shooting it later this week, so it will probably be available sometime next week.

There is a function at the site, which allows members to request or submit ideas for video tutorials.

Fantastic resource - thanks all involved!

Great idea. . . how someone make one on perfect exposure metering.

Thanks.

Stephen
