  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Amazing new whisky!

Islay

Islay

Guys,

I just got back from shooting a commercial for Bowmore Whiskey on Islay. Man, we went into the cellars and dipped neat into the casks, opened and tasted using traditional methods of course ; ) Boy was that an eye opener. My favourite was a Bourbon Cask 16 year old. You could taste the Vanilla and fresh Pineapple!!

On leaving I got a 'Cask Bottled' 16 year old that I'm keeping for Christmas day. The amazing thing is that there is so much variation and subtlety between the different whiskies even within this one brewery. You'd need a lifetime to figure it all out, but what a life that would be!

Costelloe Michael,

amazing!!!

You could be a really whisky boy of the year here at forum.

I do like a good Bowmore! I can't wait to do an Islay whisky tour!

Ardbeg The Ultimate 10 years old is is an awesome.

It tastes like all the best Islay whiskyes and even that a bit more more with its extensive smoke flavor.

Ardbeg Connoisseurs Choice Distiled 1996 is an entry level of

whisky and could be used REALLY for girlfriends and all other non-used-to-whisky to keep drinking on a party.

So Ardbeg The Ultimate 10 years old was only only a good buy.

But anyway you had a good (if not the best) time with that drinks in your (overall) life.

To keep your imagination going on is the most important thing in all those "drinking highways".

That's exactly how the British Empire keep the things going on in a right way and all the time.

Also with a great hope.

One more picture, Kohlmarkt Wien 2007:

Sure I like the odd Jameson's or Glenlivet, I'm not really a scotch or whiskey guy. Obviously, Armagnac's my drink of choice, but good Armagnac is so expensive, (decent armagnac starts at 60$ for a vintage)... So I end up drinking a lot of bourbon.

My current fave is Rowan's Creek. It's a touch more more expensive than your knob creek or woodford reserve, but... worth every penny.

I have been away far too long. My current favorites are Laphroaig, Bruichladdich, Caol Ila and Lagavulin. I used to like a lot of the highland malts but then I discovered the peaty Islay malts. I've never turned back. I've had some of the older Laphroaigs but nothing is quite as peaty as the 8 year, which is definitely king of peat. Caol Ila is exceptional but I think my current favorite is Bruichladdich.

Trader Joe's carries and incredible deal called Finlaggen which is the mystery malt from Islay. Weighing in at an incredible $16.99 a bottle it is a daily drinker. I've enjoyed reading on the different threads the conjecture about which distillery is currently producing it.

Just tried a surprisingly good Japanese whisky, Nikka, that I picked up in the Paris airport. Very good. Kinda in the middle of a Burbon and a fruity Scotch.

I saw it here in Viennese shops like a (Meinl am Graben).

Nikka sounds like a brother or sister from Nikkor. :) :clown2:

Thanks Blaine,

all good to know.

And Single Islay Malt rules.

Looking forward to get on the Isle of Islay one day (in Spring/May) with RED in hands.

Last night I had the best 10 year I've ever tried, and also my new favorite island malt: The Talisker 10. Wow! It tastes and feels like a 15 or even 18 year and yet it's only 10. It has a very manageable peat nose and taste with soothing honey on the end, a real delight.

I've also now taken to drinking decaf straight black coffee before I drink my scotch. It pulls all the sugar off your taste buds an get's your palate ready to detect all the sweetness and subtleties of the scotch.

Shawn thanks for a great info.

Looking forward on Monday to try to find it if I get early enough for shopping.

Shawn You looks like very big whisky fan ..have fun :whistling:

Lol, mostly because I have an insatiable curiosity to know what the next brand/type tastes like. I have bottles in my collection from years ago. It's a living collection :-)

what is the running software behind your whisky :spidy:

It's running Arkaos VJ software with Numark NuVJ console (the biggest middle LCD 30" and the left monitor 23" on Mac Pro 8-core and the left 23" is Capture One Pro RAW software on a Mac G5 Dual core. All LCDs are Apple Cinema Displays. Also you could see JBL, Harman Kardon and Genelec as a sound monitoring option. Uncovered things are M-Audio FW 410, Yamaha 01X Digital Mixing Studio and Wacom tablet A3.

BASSAM MSSALATIE,

I'm exploring construction and composition of sound and vision.

It could finnish as a short/docu/feature movie theatrical release or it can be used in a theatre performace as a visual background.

:w00t: That's very good .is it support dolby output ?:innocent:

Dolby running on Logitech Z-640 and Yamaha AV Package 61 surround sound systems. Not the best one but all very good to get an idea.

Just had a glass of the Ardbeg Very Young. If I remember rightly, it's only 6 years old, which is very young, hence the name, for a single malt. However, if you think the more years the better, I don't always think this is the case, and this Ardbeg certainly proves the contrary.

Because it's young - Ardbeg usually bottle at 10 years old - it has the basic characteristics of Ardbeg, the peat and smoke, as a good Islay should, but it also has a fruitiness and even a sweetness that is more like a Speyside, but without perhaps the Fruitcake spice sherry a Speyside is famed for.

It's bottled cask strength, so on a careful tasting lets the flavour in, but it's almost too sweet, not that that's a bad thing. The mouth-feel is wonderful, as it melts and evaporates on your tongue, letting the peatiness come out. Adding water opens it up and makes it more drinkable, and moderates the sweetness and lets you taste the fullness of the flavour.

It doesn't have a long after-taste, like say the 16 Lagavulin, which is pure warmth and peat, but the Ardbeg very young burns fast and brightly and sweet with peat, and without spice. Very nice indeed, and a pleasant change from the older single malts. I don't think you'd get away with such a young whisky if it wasn't such a high quality or has the peatiness of the the Islays, but a wonderful drink it is. Enjoy.

During this evening I found something very pleasing after the meal when I switched from RED wine (a Sicilian rosso) to

Ardbeg Connoisseurs Choice Distiled 1996 that has 40%.

It tasted very good and after that all was fine, even RedUser Forum :clown2: :) .

I kept the leftover of Ardbeg The Ultimate 10 years old for drinking after the Christmas evening's Prosecco

For Sylvester night I will get new one (?) of the Islay's malts to drink something stronger after Champagne and Barbaresco as usual...

Also Laphroaig aged 15 years is gone almost a week ago.
