  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Amazing new whisky!

The one piece of hand baggage only really applies when you are going through the security check, there is no real hassle after that, boarding the plane etc, and they are usually quite happy for you to buy as much duty free as you want, AFTER the last security check.

So yeah, it is a pain, but you can minimise the effects on whisky buying at least ;-)

Oh dear, I've found another one!

Thus is born a whisky I have recently found that is rapidly becoming my favorite, it is called 'Sheep Dip'.
The Sheep Dip wasn't bad... since I was a whiskey virgin when I first tried this, it took me like an hour to drink a half ounce? Lol... I'm a beer snob, the hard alcohol takes some getting used to.

I also learned to be careful when drinking this and having a conversation with Shawn. He'll ask you a question just as you take a sip, so your inclination is to swallow it quickly and answer the question. In the immortal words of Ralph Wiggum, "It tastes like burning!"

I still prefer rum over whiskey. :whistling:

For Rum, Newfoundland Screech is awesome!

As for my opinion on Aberlour 10 - it's better than I thought, but needs water and warmth to open up it's flavour.

I am shocked! Not one mention of my favorite:

Glennmorangie (Port Wood Finish, 12 yr.)

Uisce na Beatha!

Uisce na Beatha!

Hey occasional poster here..

It's brilliant to see so many of you are into whiskey - being Irish it's pretty much part of life! .. uisce na beatha - water of life in Irish or as we commonly call it 'beat the wife!' - Irish rhyming humour for you! - mind you whiskey can get you pretty fired up if you let it and you are in a bad mood when you have a few.. Best to handle that bottle with care if your starting mood isn't too good..

I love Lagavulin 16 year old and Talisker (12 yrs) though believe me with Skye malts when you first taste it you're like what is this shit?! But you warm to it very quickly and then you can't get enough of it.. You think you're tasting TCP iodine style at first then you're like this is bloody great! I used to work in a famous Irish bar in Boston and I remember every day at 1 o'clock a guy in a deerstalker hat would come in, stand at the bar and order 1 dram of Talisker (8 bucks a pop) - same time very day - just the one and then he'd be off. Turns out he was an ex-CIA guy but that's another story..

Aberlour Graham mentioned - I got a bottle recently in Barcelona - great taste really quite smooth with a sherry cask finish from what I remember. To be honest Jamesons to me as an Irish whiskey is a mixer whiskey.. With Irish whiskeys - most of them taste ok against Scottish whiskies.. Powers, Coleraine, Bushmills, Tullamore (actually really quite smooth & malty). Also Irish whiskies for whatever reason are generally quite a bit cheaper than Scottish whiskies..

Anyway that's my tuppence for what it's worth..

I'm going to explore Ardbeg Distillery starting with Still Young.

Ardbeg Still Young>>>

Very young is awesome, so I'd expect the Still Young to be really good too.

Hope so.

Just finding out the (best!?) prices here in Viennese shops.

Tomorrow one is mine, very Young or Still Young.

Good luck with that. It's hard not to enjoy an Ardbeg!

Ardbeg goes exceptionally well with a nice pipe full of cavendish tobacco. I learned that the smoky flavor of the pipe cancels out the smokiness of the Ardbeg and the result is that the Ardbeg tastes incredibly sweet!

And with the Islay malts, you can have the flavour of smoking, without the tobacco!

Hi,

I just got back from the city (Vienna). Here it's all crazy these days and in a real Christmas shopping and drinking mood. Simply you can't get so far away because you are already a bit "influenced". So I did not get in the main Viennese whisky shop that would be now dangerous because it is close the to one lens antique shop where I'm buying all my Leica's. So I left in neighboring shop and have got two very good Ardbeg Islay whisky bottles:

Ardbeg The Ultimate 10 years old and Ardbeg Connoisseurs Choice Distiled 1996.

So I'm very happy now and with a BIG hope to maybe get some more bottles for all those Holidayz and parties :clown2: :) :sorcerer:
