  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Am I the only one with a bad taste in my mouth?

Trust me.. this has kept me up at night. Just ask anyone at RED.. I've had rather embarassing temper tantrums behind closed doors over knowing some of our customers are being shipped camera brains with no way to actually using them.

The good news is that manufacturing has responded. The most important bit.. the Touch LCD, will be out of backorder next week. Redmotes will follow. New tech to manage the hundreds of thousands of components we need to make our products and make sure they are prioritized according to demand is being brought up.

I know its hard to see the good happening behind all this.. but we really are a new RED now. For the last couple years, Jim and I would give dates that usually turned out to be wild guesses from engineers. We have the smartest engineers on the planet ( seriously ) but they are the absolute last people one should ask the question "when".

Come the end of March.. Dates will be driven by manufacturing. Like it should be.

Seems the right people is also upset.

as i said in another thread.
march will be the magic month!

and i will own a scarlet-x with a TITANIUM mount. never in my life i had a camera with a titanium mount. i had a lot of cameras, nearly none of them had any piece build of titanium, except the nikon f3 TI or the olympus om-4 TI...

A TITANIUM MOUNT !!! can't believe that i will own such a thing !!!

I certainly think the wait will be worth it for the titanium mount, but UGH! Sure is frustrating waiting while everyone else seems to be getting their cams.

Red has always rewarded people who are patient. I certainly have had my moments of impatience as well! However, I really sense that Red will get on top of the whole backorder situation in the near future.

I've just received my TOUCH LCD, so he was not kidding. Let's hope the camera is not far behind...

As much as I'm thrilled that a whole bunch of you guys are all getting your cameras; I ordered mine Nov 5th (al mount), got my allocation email on Feb 21st and still nothing.
So I called my BS rep on Wednesday, who told me they were having "supply issues" (not enough cameras) to which I replied "fair enough" and was content to wait a wee bit more.
Then I go on here and see that people who ordered over a month after me, and got their allocation email 3 days after me already have their cameras in their hands.
This kinda bothered me, so I called my rep today (since they were closed yesterday). I called every hour, on the hour until finally I had to get an operator to get him on the line. We processed my card for payment and after initially being declined I made a quick call to Visa who said they declined the payment for "security reasons" I told them to make sure to allow it and it went through. My BS rep then told me he'd call me back in a couple hours to tell me how long it'll be. No call, and now they're closed. BS indeed, starting to taste pretty sour.

Is it fair for me to be pissed or am I being an ungrateful punk?
It's never easy to see everyone get theirs before you.

I have a shoot on Thursday that I promised the Scarlet on. I was allocated last Thursday, paid on Friday, and a week later, still hasn't shipped. I was told by my rep today that he doesn't know if it will ship by Monday, and even if it does, they can't guarantee that I will get it.

I've seen people get it a few days after allocation, and a few people who, a month later, still don't have it.

(EDIT)
I write this and then get the shipment notification right after. Go figure! Assume and all that...

Haha- dates driven by the engineering team... I am an engineer and I don't think I have ever met a deadline... karma is a bitch....

Seriously? Is this a paying client?

I'd never promise a camera on a shoot unless I had it in my hands at the time, or had already arranged hire...

+1 Anything else is irresponsible and certainly not professional.

Yes but they're friends so I have kept then up to date on the process. They are fine either way. I wouldn't have done it for a client that I don't have a real relationship with.

Seems easy to type a note to your rep or use the phone and CHANGE your order if you are that upset and want to shoot NOW....
....as every accountant will tell you...there are NO PROBLEMS HERE THAT MONEY CANNOT SOLVE....unless you are dealing with Grahem's problems....
