  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Am I the only one with a bad taste in my mouth?

Production is ramping up! Got almost all my modules allocated or shipped, except a red mote. All orders were submitted from october until december. I think you guys should be one month away from delivery. Patience! Its close to the finish line!

Why oh why is it that everytime someone brings this critique, a bunch of people manage to start talking about delivery technicalities and whatnot - which has nothing to do with what I was bringing up in the first post. It´s not about the delivery time. I´m ok with that - for others it´s becom an issue.
What I would like to see is a sincere explanation from Red why they keep feeding us news that they must know is not true.

And btw. Someone told me I should have bought a PL mount instead. Well, I initially did and I was pleased that Red would let me change to a canon mount, but that was around dec 19th (when I got the allocation for my PL camera). Based on terms used in that mail I was led to believe the ti canon mount would be ready within approx 3 weeks.

I don´t know what´s happened, but it´s very confusing and makes for a lot of extra work while this is going on. Red knows exactly what´s happening, so why are we not told?

ps! I´ve received everything but the camera, sidehandle included.

RED does business a different way than most. RED has 400 employees at most. This is not an excuse so much but more so one of the reasons why they are offering the market a 5KSTILLS/4KMOTION camera at almost the same price as the Canon offering...only a 1080p camera. This, at the same time that Arri has no 4K camera to be seen.

I waited 3 months plus for my Canon mount. I can't complain. I got a camera which no one can deliver...for anywhere near the price.

Don't worry. Be happy...

I'm pretty sure Emil knows that, as many of us do. What we're asking for isn't quicker deliveries or a better company/product. I share Emil's desire to have things explained to us, so that we don't have to guess. That's it! I'm being patient and staying happy, but let's not overlook the fact that us who are still waiting would love some piece of mind. Not much to ask and certainly worth voicing, wouldn't you think?

Where did I ever say that?

Again - I am not complaining. We (Canon Ti Scarleteers) are just little frustrated. Can You blame us...? ;o)

Well, the remark was meant to be tongue in cheek. You are preaching to the choir in my case, and I'm pretty sure Terry is waiting too. :-)

Part of the issue is the demand related to price. If Red charged an Alexa type price, the demand would be less and more cameras may be available. Of course this also depends on capacity issues.

In addition, Do you think Red is withholding information on their capacity issues? I think they are telling us what they are hoping for and not trying to deceive anyone. Red makes money by selling cameras, not by posting delay messages.

I would only order the RPZ if I was able to order the PL mount AND my Scarlet shipped without the Canon mount. So You see - You don't get it. I do not want to change anything on my order. I just don't want the Scarlet to be held up by the Canon Ti mount. People who ordered Scarlets with Canon Al mount long after me are getting their cameras already. This month alone I have spent close to $4000,- on Epic rental to keep my jobs (and no - I did not book the jobs without having my camera - so please do not start "that" lecture as I am not complaining - just stating the reality of my (and many other's) situation...)

Again - by "adding" I mean "ordering more" vs "changing my order in any way". If my Scarlet shipped now without the Canon Ti mount - I would buy the PL mount (which seams to be in stock) - or worst case rent one (10x cheaper then renting a whole camera). I hope this is clear enough...

It has been clear from the beginning that RED isn't shipping without a mount. No surprises there. And, if you check the RED store, the mounts are backordered (i.e. NOT in stock); so you couldn't get one now even if you ordered it. Maybe you are right - I don't "get it" - whatever case you are making, it's not clear to me how you could be satisfied except by a faster delivery. I'd love that, too. Wouldn't we all?

He makes a good point though. Red is shipping (or has been shipping) cameras without other essential components, so why not the mounts? There are second hand and rental mounts that could be used while waiting for your order to be completed.

I got my notice of allocation for my Ti-Canon Mount two days ago, so they are making progress. I ordered the PL Mount Scarlet WITH the Ti-Mount on the same order, thinking that I would get the PL Camera first, and have to wait for the Canon Mount. I got my PL-camera with the LCD a couple of weeks before Christmas, then RPZ, then Side Handle, then RedMote and I am very excited to get my Ti-Mount Next Week!

Personally I'd be more concerned that a 7+ page respectful discussion on some Scarlet issues was deleted. Hopefully you won't be the one stranded on set trying to troubleshoot a problem that you could have found the solution to by just reading a thread. Doesn't install much faith given the Bloom incident.

When did you place your order for the Ti Canon Mount?

I did say Terry to buy - or rent in the worst case (if not able to buy). I have several sub-100 USD quotes for mount rental here in Tokyo. Instead I have to rent the whole body at 10x the cost. How can't you not "get" this? Clearly the bodies are not holding up - the mounts are...

Anyway - I have made my point and those with eyes open can clearly see it. This is not something unrealistic to ask...

FYI.. for what it is worth.... I got my AL Scarlet... then I got my LCD ... Still waiting on side handle... I am bound to AC cord ... So even if you got your camera sooner with a different mount.. You Still Cant Shoot without the Side handle. Its just like Chinese Waiter Torture.

Btw, I asked if I could get credit on the 64GB Mag and apply it to the 4 pack... got the same answer, cant change order.
Gee, I want to give you more money, please take it but you don't want it, really?

Anyone want to split a 4 pack?

Uh - shipping? You'll notice that is backordered, too...

How is that relevant if it's backordered? The point was that they are ABLE TO ship the camera without the mount. My order is 12XX and people with orders in 18XX are getting theirs delivered. I could have had mine 2-3 weeks ago (if it was shipped without a mount when my order was up), which would have saved me over $ 2000,- USD I had to pay to rent a camera. Guess what would I rather spend the money on...

Anyway, it was a simple point, never mind...

I have a good communication with my new rep and he is hoping to have some good news for me soon...

Same boat as you. What I discovered was I could grab my computer's UPS, put it in a backpack, and use that with the A/C adapter. Yeah, it's a LOT heavier, but at least I didn't have to throw even more money on yet another battery system. It won't last on an all-day shoot, but it should be enough to get some exterior footage shot... Also, I tested with my car inverter, and that was also working fine (though I ended up not using that)..

Wow!

I think that a small but important issue with shipping without a mount is that it would complicate their ability to track fulfillment. On the order, when you buy a full package, each item is listed separately. The camera, SSD module, And mount are listed as a single line item. Shipping those as anything but a single item would create complications that would slow down the process for everything.

That's an excellent point.
