  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar lens is available - 80-200mm T3 PL and 50mm T1.5 PL

Wow, nice work. I'm curious to see how well the footage from the 80-200 matches the RPZ 18-85. At that price point, it could be a great complimentary lens.

I like the price point - this is really affordable (and with such a price I can live with reverse focus-direction)…

What I'm saying is the optical performance is unknown, as the maker chooses not to advertise where the guts came from.
What's there to be embarrassed about, might as well just say it's $1100 Nikon with a skin job or whatever.
It's not like it's front element was cut from the bottom of a sprite bottle.

Well, if another manufacturer wants to make a competing $2800 zoom with superior optical performance, they are welcome to do so!

That said... can you name a currently-manufactured 80-200 2.8 lens whose optical performance is so bad that it would actually be distracting to an audience?

The optical quality of the current Canon and Nikon 80-200 2.8 lenses is plenty good for me. Breathing on some models is a little bit of a bother but if the worst thing about the film I make is breathing in some of the shots... that's good enough for me!

Looks very intersting, looking forward to hearing more about these.

No that much to speculate optically.

It looks to be based on the NIkon 80-200 2.8 - So pleasantly low CA, a bit cool in it's color tone - but easily fixed, OK for HD finish WFO, good for whatever from T4 onwards, more solid and mechanically better than most non Leica stills lenses, not so good compared to modern cine glass and breathes like a chainsmoking french bulldog in an iron lung.

Hi Allstar,

I started a thread a week or so ago about a group buy of rehoused Nikon AIS or Leica still lenses. Unfortunately, I didn't had time to contact that many lens manufacturers yet. Would be great if you could send me some more information on those lenses and if you're interested in a group buy (for the last group buy of a steadicam, we got 50 orders together).

Cheers
David

Thanks for everyone's interests.
The zoom lens is based on Nikon 80-200. As you can see, the housing is to add gear focus scale, it is 95mm outer diameter and 77mm thread in front of the lens. The housing design is tight, and prevent dirt. I designed it for compact to be light-weight, and low price. So it's structure isn't changed. That means focus and zoom direction still be Nikon type.
But I changed lens direction to let it be able to hold focus through zoom.

The prime lens is totally different. Not like other rehousing lenses in the market, it is a completely reconstructed lens like Zeiss CP lens. It is based on Sigma 50mm F1.4, I only keep the glasses, and build other parts. It has 330 degree focus throw. I keep the compact idea. This lens size is like UP. Making this lens, is for proving we have ability to construct a lens except the glass.
There are more lenses will be made by this method. This is not an easy work, but I will insist to do it this way.

Thanks Tom. What stage are you with the other prime lenses? Will they also be from using Sigmas?

You've done great work here Tom. If the performance is good, then the price point makes sense. I would just need to figure out whether having to pop on the reversing gear every time I switch to this lens makes sense for the way we shoot.

Wooow...Amazing Design.... Look pretty

you have any sample Image? (Zoom Lens)
can you sent to Ceylon?

Thank you

Tom, I love to put my hands on your lenses.
Sent you PM.

Tom,
i like them!
I suggest you to make the sigmas 35 50 and 85 all of the same barrel length! ;)
95mm fronts are ok if 80mm isn't doable...
very nice build quality!

Tom,

Do you have any plans to rehouse a Nikon 17-35 f/2.8 lens?
