Hello every, new version of Allstar dovetail plate is available. It can be mount on all kinds of tripods, and adjust the balance after changing lenes with your RED bottom plate. Allstar dovetail plate "oconnor type" can support o`connor 1030 fluid head without oconnor quick release plate.

ALLSTAR, you're cool! Talk to you soon! My RED's Ready....

It would take a different plate design (different bottom side profile) to mate with the 2060/2575 as they differ from the 1030.

OK, used it in anger for the first time today and have to say I'm very happy.

If you already have the Red Bottom Plate, this is an excellent addition and makes life very much easier without having to resort to the ET Bridge Plate and Dovetail.

I have a Ronford Fluid 15 adapted with a quick release system. The snap plate screws into the bottom of the Allstar Dovetail which slides seamlessly into the Red Bottom Plate, allowing me a couple of options for quickly dismounting the camera. We did a lot of to-ing and fro-ing today between the tripod and the Red Shoulder Dovetail (yes, we actually use it sometimes!) and the Allstar Dovetail made this operation so much simpler (previously we had mounted to tripod using the Red Cheeseplate).

The only small issue I would raise is that the camera doesn't slide so smoothly using the Allstar Dovetail as I would expect from a regular Balance Plate, but I put this down to the design of the Red Bottom Plate. It's certainly not a big problem, and when locked the Dovetail is rock solid.

All-in-all, an excellent product, well built and a great buy.

Don't have the Allstar Dovetail so I don't know it might help but you could try not making the screws from the Red Bottom Plate too tight to the camera body as it tends to make the plate bend a little and that could be a reason for it to not slide smoothly.
Thanks for the review. Sounds like an interesting option.

Hi,Stephen I am very glad that you like my product.About your issue,You should push the lock back to left "completely". If you don`t,the ebonite infix on coign will touch RED bottom plate and make drag. Hope this can solve your problem.:turned:

I like it!! The length and quick release should add speed to a quick balance. However, speed is super important to me and I prefer the Oconner quick release plate. Can the quick release plate be attached to the bottom of the dovetail? Sliding the dovetail into the Oconner just seems to take to much time.

Got my dovetail (and cheeseplate) today. A fine piece of kit. Solid and fits nicely on my O'Conner Ultimate 1030 head once I remove the O'Conner quick-release plate.

Only the RED side handle got in the way of the 1030 pan-handle rosette. I simply removed the side handle's bottom clamp to fix that situation.

Thanks, Allstar.

Michael

Hi guys,
If you wanna use my dovetail in your work, please buy it early. It`ll need 3 shiping+1 working days.
Plz don`t tell me "I need this in two days, would you ship it ASAP..."
I`m not super man....:help:

Thanks for the review Stephen - this looks like a very interesting option, as we like to use the shoulder dovetail for HH work too - it's great as long as you don't get it within 20 feet of a tripod mount!!

Regarding the smoothness of the dovetail sliding into the bridgeplate, how heavy is your tripod? I know the Ronford, but if you've got lightweight CF legs or similar the lack of a sturdy base can cause issues with this - I just shot a low-budget horror on our Red using an Arri BP and dovetail combo (which needless to say fit like a glove together) on a Sachtler 20 (or 25 maybe, I can't remember), and the lack of tripod weight made sliding the dovetail assembly much less smooth than I would usually expect on a more serious tripod rig. Just a thought...

EDIT: Sorry Michael, just saw you've been using one on a 1030 - how was the fit on that, that should certainly provide enough support for smooth operation if the fit is good - any thoughts?
