Really glad this thread is working.

The idiot using the "Sarah Brown" (sellsbusiness@outlook.com) name emailed me 9/27/14 about a Scarlet Dragon because of my WTB thread. My email address isn't even on here, so the person took the time to go to my website and find it instead of just PMing me.

Scammer:
"I'm selling a scarlet dragon brain. Please notify me if you're still looking to make a purchase.
Thanks, Sarah!"

Me (suspecting it's a fake from the email address, but I figured let's just see where this goes):
"Yeah I'm interested."

Scammer:
"Great, What information can I provide you with before making a purchase?
Thanks, Sarah!"

Me:
"Not trying to waste my time. Look at your email address. Try harder."

Scammer:
"What do you mean by that?"

Me:
"What is sellsbusiness?"

Scammer:
"A business in which you make sells to make profit?
Thanks, Sarah!"

Me:
"Oh, you make 'sells,' that's cool. Move on."

Scammer:
"I have no clue what you're speaking of but would you like to make a purchase or?
Thanks, Sarah!"

Me:
"No."

Scammer:
"Okay, thanks for your time. Thanks, Sarah! (smiley face)"

Efren Michelle - New scam name.
Got a reply on my WTB ad her on RU. The pictures sent on a lens from a person named "Efren Michelle" (
<efrenmichelle@outlook.com>) was from an up and running ebay auction. Maybe a new "Sarah Brown"?
10-15-2014: Edit: Got a PayPal address emailed from the Scammer and reported it to PayPal. No response yet… efrenm1985@outlook.com

Last email I received:

"That's the highest resolution I can have the picture in. The picture was taken at are filming arena in Atlanta, Georgia and my friend so happens to have had a extra picture of it at the arena. The lens is about 1 years old and it is in mint condition. Mechanically it is in excellent shape. The Glass is clean, like new without any scratches throughout it. It includes lens support and a top handle for easy carrying around. It's not a ex rental. I have brought the lens in brand new shape therefor you shouldn't have any problems occur. I am selling the lens because I was told by the producer of the filming that I need a Nikon 13mm f5.6 which I am renting out to use monthly in the producing of the filming. The serial number for the lens is C020503.

Best Regards,
Efren Michelle."

I wonder how many months this has to continue, I was hoping to hear that the individual or individuals responsible for scamming so many people would've been facing prosecution already.

There's a scammer impersonating "Tony Capil" using this profile:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/member.php?178926-Tony-Capil

I received a PM regarding my WTB REDStation Mini-Mag reader thread on 10-09-2014, 12:02 PM:
---
Wow was just about to post mine for sale but noticed the forum wouldn't let me yet. My station condition is excellent and works perfect. I have the 1.8 coming in the mail so need to sell this one to buy a travel charger. $120 with shipping and fees.

Thanks
Tony,
702-966-9568
---

He linked a vimeo profile of the real Tony Capil in his signature, so I replied:
"Hi Tony, great timing! Can you attach photos and also verify your ID using social media?
How about writing a line in your bio on your vimeo page like "Hey It's me Tony from REDUser" and then you can delete it. We play it safe nowadays in the market forum because there was recently a scammer posing as another filmmaker and had fake social media accounts set up."

I didn't get a reply, so I googled the phone number and saw that it was for some locksmith.
I sent a couple more REDUser PMs to the guy, asking him if he was still selling and I got no reply.

Today, I sent a vimeo message to the real Tony (same vimeo profile linked in scammer's signature) and Tony replied, saying he never sent that message and doesn't own a RED camera. He also confirmed our conversation through his email address listed on his production company's website.

Glad I dodged this scam.

REPORTING SCAM ARTIST: James M. Perry (MD/NY)

REPORTING SCAM ARTIST: James M. Perry (MD/NY)

Just a warning to everyone, do not deal with, buy anything from, or work with JAMES M. PERRY (http://jamesmperry.com).

He's wanted by the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland for selling a stolen BlackMagic Production Camera on Craigslist and falsifying police reports. They believe his current whereabouts are in New York.

Hope this helps someone some day!

Bought a jetpack from Rob Anderson from http://www.blackwoodfx.com 26March, Paid 26 March. Still nothing. Messaged here, emailed him and his company. He said he will send it via fedex and will provide tracking but still nothing.
I see him posting on reduser recently and looks like hes been around a while but I am not sure what is going on. Anyone here know him personally? I have received packages from overseas faster than him and his located stateside as well. Not sure if hes a scammer per se but just watch out.

Hi Jae

He could of been attending NAB that is the only thing I can think of?

Hey Barbara. I understand but last time I have heard from him was 4APR2015. He posted on a lot of threads here 13 APR. How long does it take to give someone tracking info lol.

Redusers watch out for JAMES RAY.

Contacted me to try to sell me an Alexa package. The usually resistance to taking Paypal payment, and listed the gear included with the Alexa with odd pieces of a matte box that didn't make any sense. Must have grabbed random accessories from someone elses listing. He does not have a Reduser account, contacted me because I listed my email address.

I look to see the year the person joined and see how active they have been in the community. If they just signed up, I pass. If someone has been around a couple years and participated in a several relevant discussions, I have more trust. It is difficult to build a long-term fake history. This isn't perfect, but its a good start for me.
