  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

All the bad news...

Thanks for being so transparent Jim. I don't know any other company that would be this transparent and keeping your customers in the loop is just 1st customer service. This community is your customer base and we 110% understand the lateness. I know one day soon, you'll post that illusive "EPIC-X Shipping" posting and light up a Cuban! Hell, I bet that posting is already written somewhere!

Here's hoping the production line ramps quickly!

I actually didn't introduce myself in Vegas because you looked a bit stressed... BUT, if this helps counter-balance anything half a notch, I'm a customer for whom the delay actually WORKS in my favour, in my particular ridiculous and unique circumstances.
So there you go, on an internet board there are always counter opinions. I wouldn't say long live the delay... but there ya go, there's at least one and it's me! :)

Your news is very good news.
Another dream will go arrive

Thank you, Jim

My blood pressure is not the bad news... customers having to wait is. Sorry I posted that.

Jim

To some of us, that is a bad news as well Jim, we want you to be healthy for both reasons of care, and selfish reasons of wanting you to be around a LONG time to build us many more generations of RED cameras... ;)

It would have been easy for me to be desapointed if the Scarlet doesn't show up before september but hey... It is "only" 3 months so... Doesn't matter ! Plus as someone said : it gives more time to find the money ! (I'm currently searching some money to get a short made this summer, if Scarlet's not out... Well... I'll go R1MX or 16mm film depending on the budget I can find... If I can find it but that's another problem !)

BUT if I can ask a feature that I would LOVE if it was possible : a 1080P quick time reference ? Like those in the R1 but always at 1080P no matter in what resolution you shot ? Possible ? (for some reason some people I work/worked for ask for this due to computing power and even me I think it would be a bit practical)

But if it's impossible to make it's not that big of a deal ! You already make (I think) the best cameras in the world !

Anyway, keep cool Jim (and everyone at Red) and do what you have to do in the time you have to do it. You don't owe us cameras, WE owe you gratitude for these toys^^

If not sleeping doesn't change things out of your control then sleep. This is a marathon not a sprint.

I wish you the best in health and spirts for the rest of what has already been the year of Red.

Jim, I've seen EPIC-M serials in the high hundreds. Are the numbers representative of total production? Will we soon landmark into the thousands?

Thanks for another update :)

Ha, good point, each of us is waiting on one to three cameras to deliver. Jim is having to wait to deliver thousands.

I hope this production lull isn't affecting FF35 development too much. Keep pressing on towards the future!

Sorry to hear about the supply issues continuing, but you aren't the only one in that boat. I was talking to a dealer for Sony, Panasonic, Canon at a prebid meeting the other day and deliveries of new orders on their cameras are running 8-12 weeks or more depending on model.
Any news on the interchangeable lens Scarlet and the mini-primes?

thanks for the update and the honesty. Good things come to those who wait, and we have no problem waiting for you and your awesome team delivering to us when you can. in the meantime don't stress (ditto for the rest of the team) your health is more important than anything else.

Thank you so much for the update Jim! This really helps a lot!
Of course you'll never know for sure until it's released, but just this estimate is great to have a bit of perspective.
I for my part am happy about having the news. We can keep on shooting with what we have, until the new sun rises ;)
We'll keep our fingers crossed for you - and us - that this will be the last hurdle and delay until final release!
Keep up the awesome work.

And thanks a million for doing this the way you do it!

I can see that Scarlet is available at Christmas.

That also fits as a perfect Christmas present...

Also have seen some improvements with Epic 5K in Redcode color management (a.k.a Colour Science) but still has to be a little bit more done to beat Arri and Sony/Panavision.

HDRx based on shutter speed is nice but limited.

It's difficult to recover something that is not captured even try using any sort of Magic Sword (or Motion) or similar...

It reminds me on Norman Koren way of thinking who claims that is possible to get any lens correction in post but I have a big doubts about it...

That's why companies like a Leica, Zeiss, Angenieux, Cooke,... make lenses that can perfectly capture a flat image at all apertures and at the most of focal lengths...

Again with a general HDR concept that can be used in moving images I still claim that one track that can capture exposure with a clean high ISO is much safer bet than a track that can capture using a certain shutter speed.

All that means just make it as it is a simple as possible and with it can be easy to convince the best world's cinematographers with camera features that offer an IQ

or a color look (skin tones) as much closer to the latest film stocks (also close to digital look of skin tones that acquired with Canon 5DMK2)

and latitude that using safe bet HDRx exposure capture that is a clean high ISO image liberated from any sort of motion and lighting flicker artifacts (that is also very important for a slow motion HDRx capture).

THANKS for the update, Jim. Anytime this year for release of Scarlet Fixed is good news from my point of view.

John

We wish we only had good news... but then we would be perfect. We are far from it. What we are is a company that is working 24/7 to change the industry. That is not an easy task...

Jim
Thanks for updating... now I can switch from June pessimism to late July optimism. I hate pessimism.
