In other news: 99.9% of the world's population doesn't give a shit about 4k.

Link to your stats claim please?

77% of Americans own digital camera and 1080p just became standard for both recording and playback on iPad3 without line dropping or downers. Next year probably the same will come to iPhone.

So I will not claim that 99.9% doesn't want 4K.

Kids don’t want cell phones without minimum 5MPix camera build in.
If you give them one they are crying:-)

Just watch this:

Still claiming that 99.9% doesn't give a shit about 4K
Well I can say that 90% of earth population doesn’t give a shit about TV since they do not watch TV regularly.

Yes most people don’t know about 4K but they know about tablets and good screen and fuzzy screen.
And soon they will not want fuzzy images on the bedroom/living room walls or kitchen counters

(most common reaction to iPad2 owners seeing iPad3 image for the first time, why my screen is so fuzzy)

Do you want fuzzy image on your fridge or kitchen counter while preparing scrambled egs or you want the normal one? (normal means 4K/8K)

:-)

.... One thing for sure... if you are a Professional, you have to pay attention. That is part of the definition.....

Jim

I resemble that remark - most people imagine they do. But as a geek who pays close attention, let me say that if you are looking for better motion picture capabilities for less money, it simply doesn't exist. Looking for better for alot more money - still doesn't exist! All roads lead to Red; at least for the foreseeable future. The only exception, at the moment, is in the seriously high resolution stills realm, where the Nikon D800 is the new king of the hill at 36.3 megapixels from a full frame 35mm sensor. I trust your professionalism is hard at work to resolve this one minor "deficiency" and am sooooo looking forward to it. :wink5:

In other news: 99.9% of the world's population doesn't give a shit about 4k.

What's funny about that, is that some time ago, 99.9% of people didn't care about HD.

Then, more recently, people didn't care about 1080p over 720p.

Now, 99.9% want a 1080p HD display. Why? Because of education and experience (even if that education is simply "1080 is a bigger and better number than 720").

Do you really think, once educated that 4K exists is becming more readily avaialable, people won't want it?

People who've never had sex, but have read the description feel the same way, but once you've actually experienced it, your attitude changes rather firmly!

I think there a lot of people on this forum who have not had sex, but know about 4k and want 4k...

knowing that dragon won't be the last sensor upgrade for epic x would reassure me ;)

..i think a lot of us are hoping for a full-on monstro sensor to fill that space

good luck

Until another company starts thinking the way Red does, I'll stick with Red. Upgradability at a reasonable price point. I'm tired of buying, and learning to use, a new camera every 4-6 months.

RED is the color of life. Of passion. Of aggression. And war. It is the color of love... and excitement, speed and strength. What other color is there? :-)

Jim

Blue is the color of the sky , it s the color of the sea, it s the color of the dream .......it s the more relaxing color for the eyes to see.

Yellow is very close to the red , yellow is the color of the sun , it s the color of the power, it s the most agressive color with the red.

I think every color got his purpose .

It seems to me that Red is in the driver's seat of the industry. Looking at the lineup of heavyweight sponsors of the reduser "My World is in 4K" party, I see that even Panasonic, a competitor, is there. Even color scheme influence; who would have thought that PortaBrace bags would be anything but blue? When I saw "Loom", my jaw dropped like when I first saw "Crossing the Line", but even more so because I was seeing it in alternating 8-bit 2K instead of the simultaneous 10-bit 4K that it's going to be.

Again, THANK YOU Jim and everyone at Red for making all this possible. Also, a big thanks to Michael Cioni of Light Iron for putting on the World in 4K Competition and everyone involved in putting on the kick-ass party!

I don't know Jim. 3D has been around since the 50's and while it seems to have caught on recently, do you think most films need 3D? I understand why blockbuster films like the Hobbit, Avengers, or even Prometheus need to be shown in 3D, as they excite audiences with incredible images and 3D does offer that experience.

But what about films like Beginners, Social Network, or Girl with the Dragon Tattoo where action is not the primary concern but rather story, dialogue, and themes? Would they need 3D to convey their story better? I don't think so. To see in color is a huge change just as hearing audio in films for the first time is extraordinary too. But to have 3D, become the new standard for film..... just isn't sinking in to me.
