"Adobe will also announce an initiative called “CinemaDNG” for a new, open file format for digital cinema video data, which is based upon Adobe's open file format for RAW still images. The new file format targets the problems created by multiple camera vendors shipping their own proprietary RAW formats, which include downstream incompatibilities during production and archiving. Adobe will announce several founding partners at the show, and the company says it hopes to pull together a working group to help formulate the standard."

Will this have any impact in the professional market? Could it affect a RED workflow at all?

Would it suck or kick ass!?:umm:

I said it before and I'll say it again - Adobe rules.

Cross platform, kick ass integration, open SDK and 32-bit all day long -

Plenty of slipping Avid market share to grab -

well not neccessarily slipping AVID marketshare but more options AVID doesnt offer or can't, at this juncture.
ADOBE has and always been not only a great self encapsulated solution but an amazing addition to every workflow of every platform/program possiblity, again which is why i agree with you

THEY RULE!

Agreed!! :sorcerer:

It would be great to see Adobe, Apple and Avid all offer solutions for editing and developing R3D files.

They ALL will for sure. None of them are stupid.

But you know ... one will be cheap/free but limited and will break with every QT upgrade - another will take five extra steps to get the job done ... you know how it goes ...

I would just like to SUGGEST to those out there who are SERIOUS about post workflows for the RED - not just fast, cheap and easy - but pro workflows that can scale to BIG projects - you should consider DPX - not Quicktime.

meta data PER FRAME - many, many tools available.

Take a closer look at the AJA Xena 2K card ... just sayin ...

Good stuff Mark,

Did you send out your NAB 2008 Pics yet?

Thanks
Dave

Great thanks!

My chips are on Adobe as well.

But don't count Apple out quite yet.

I have to say that i am somewhat impressed by Adobe CS3, and that after over one decade of discreet finishing/vfx systems.

The quality is very good (15/16bit RGB), the resolution is 4K and the toolkit Adobe Master CS3 is excellent.

Another thing: Adobe is here to stay. Many other products have come and gone, Adobes core business wont be sold anytime soon.

I would love to be able to process my RED footage in something like Adobe's Lightroom... this is great news.

This sounds like a very good idea. It's nuts having all these different proprietary RAW formats. I've been an Adobe guy since the day I started editing, on Premiere 5.1. :)

Ha ha, I started on a demo of Premiere 6.0, loved it and upgraded everytime and I am now on CS3, which is a great improvement on the non "pro" versions...
