  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe CS6 officially released.

That's pretty much my exact setup, down to the SSD and internal drive replacing the optical. Can't wait to see what kind of performance I get on CS6. Any special tips on setup/preferences?

I JUST installed it. Didn't do anything with the settings.

Just tried 5kFF and it doesn't like it until its 1/16th res. Big difference, but you have to realize it's another 3rd bigger at something like 13.8mp vs 4k which is like 9mp (I think).

Argument to shoot 4k unless you specifically need that extra resolution maybe...

EDIT: I think the 2.3 has more L3 cache or something as well.

These are my CPU specs (from About This Mac/ More info / System Report)

Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB

Can someone on a Mac load up Premiere and tell me what is says when you do an About Premiere Pro (under the Premiere Pro menu). Does it say Version 6.0.0 (319 (MC: XXXXXX))

Thanks!
Finally got CS6 MC loaded on my Mac and launched Premiere, yup it looks just like you wrote.
Best, Jeff

Thanks Jeff! And this is the official released version that came out today correct?

I've been working with Speedgrade for about a week and it's pretty powerful. As always when working with RED footage, be aware of space requirements. When sending your project over to Speedgrade from Premiere, Premiere will be creating DPX files for Speedgade to work with. I think my 60sec. spot was about 12 additional gigs of DPX files. Again, if you've shot RED, you know all about large amounts of data. I would love to work natively in Speedgrade with R3D inside a pre-cut sequence and not just individual files. If it's possible, let me know.

Send to SpeedGrade seems to be a fail safe option mostly designed for formats not natively supported by SpeedGrade, e.g. XDCAM-EX, AVCHD.

For R3D, as Phil says, EDL is the best solution.

Of course, we should look forward to tighter integration between SG and PP in future versions.

Yes it's the release version, I uninstalled the leaked version a few days ago. Still feel kind of bad about that, like we all jumped the fence at recess or something ;-)

A second thanks for verifying this Jeff. I wasn't in the mood for an uninstall.

Regarding Neat Video... I actually emailed them earlier today asking if Neat Video is compatible with CS6. Here is the response I got:

"Mostly yes, and for the remaining bits we are currently preparing an update, which will be available (as free update) in the coming days.

Best regards, Vlad"

Anybodys guess as to what he means by "mostly"!

I re-downloaded neat video for After Effects on May 3rd, and installed. I have been running it in After Effects CS6 trial with 5k .r3d source material.

Works great. Seems to be using CUDA as well.

After Effects CS6 uses CUDA only for the ray-traced 3D renderer.

See these two videos for the main performance improvements in After Effects CS6:

GPU: http://www.video2brain.com/en/lessons/system-requirements-for-gpu-acceleration-opengl-cuda
cache: http://www.video2brain.com/en/videos-13043.htm

The cache features in the second video are HUGE. You have to try them to believe the difference.

Yes, that was a lazy mistake on my side. I watched the videos I swear! Neat's site mentions a few times that the latest update utilizes CUDA 4, so I imagine the Premiere version would actually be taking advantage there, but I can't speak with certainty.

In any case, the plugin runs quite well in After Effects, for those that were wondering.

The cache features really are tremendous. Really well done.

Ordered mine, super pumped. Will there be more of those Peachpit press books on the market? Find them great for getting into the nooks and crannies of CS programs.

I know for a fact Harrington and Carmen are updating the Premiere book to include changes to 6.0
