Jim,

I inquired earlier but got no reply. In addition to the EVFs beginning to ship, is the firmware now updated to enable their use?

cool, if reds evolution keeps being that fast(look what red made the last 6 weeks), my red will probably fly next year

Sure - and make coffee, take out the trash, walk the dog and do the dishes. The future looks so bright I have to wear shades :matrix:

I know this is counter-intuitive, but what if some of us actually want to delay our order for a month or two? I've heard others saying just that, and I have said so in another thread.

I have two cameras on order but will not likely begin shooting until well into '08. Things could change between now and then, but I would be satisfied accepting my first camera and shifting my receive date for the second one a month at a time. I need the first one to get acquainted, but may not have use for the second one for some months. I'm not saying definitely at this point, situation could change, but I MIGHT be willing to swap places with a later time-stamp holder (both of mine are time stamped) who is in dire straits to get a project done on RED.

I'm not trying to make money off this, so what if a time-stamp holder would notify RED that he/she is willing to defer acquisition and anyone wanting to speed up acquisition would also contact RED and be put on a list. Then, depending on how long the time-stamp holder was willing to defer, a match could be made with the first on the list of the time-stamp holders for that grouping. Neither party would know who the other was, so it would be a fairly done deal with no quid pro quo.

Of course, it would be a little more work for RED, but it could have its rewards. In my case, for instance, I would probably buy more accessories earlier while not having to accrue the extra cash for the second RED. It would just give me more time to be financially able to buy more accessories all together.

Also, when demand catches up with supply, will RED develop a lease/purchase option? With attending insurance and a large enough doun payment, it looks like something that would fly.

Being that EVFs are in short-supply.. Should I put 10% down on one soon? All I have reserved thus far is the Camera and the old zoom lens..

Jim has stated previously that as the cameras are not fully operational you're entitled to delay your order - just like RED is entitled to postpone delivery on your order. Which is only fair for both parties.

I'm quite sure Jim has a very clear opinion on switching reservations. I understand you request, but even though I have no idea of how RED does it's delivery handling, I think it would be a huge undertaking for RED to switch people's orders around.

I know I am repeating myself here. But now since mr Jannard is around:
Is the tracker number equivalent to the serial number when it comes to the art of waiting?
Thats all I want to know for the moment.

thanks

Sure - and make coffee, take out the trash, walk the dog and do the dishes. . . .

. . . and take that trip to France, circumnavigate the globe alone on a skateboard, submit to the cryonics experiment at Arizona State University. . .

Switching orders just involves telling time-stamp number xxxxxx that your delivery date has been moved up a month and time-stamp number kkkkkk has been moved back into the vacated number. This could easily be done by hand, but I'm sure they are computerized, and should be doable in seconds. Everything else would handled as though xxxxxx had been time-stamped when kkkkkk was time-stamped and vice-versa.

They can figure this out. They are geniuses!

Jay, I hope you don't mean me! You can see from my other posts that I have the upmost respect for Jim and the Red team. I'm just curious where I fall on the list. As others have stated, my order number/time stamp/tracking number isn't a clear representation of my serial number, or if it is, it seems lost in translation. Thanks.

Nope I did not mean you.. Honestly, I forgot who promted me to write my post.. I'm getting old.
Jay

It has become apparent that we cannot ship out all cameras on one day of a scheduled release. Please note the word "Begins" now is inserted into the schedule.

You CAN choose to wait until all features are enabled to take delivery (with no penalty). We now expect all features to be enabled by November 30th.

We encourage anyone that is nervous about accepting a camera that does not have all features enabled to wait.

Serial numbers 1-50 Delivered
Serial numbers 51-100 Begins October 15th (50 units)
Serial numbers 101-200 Begins October 30th (100 units)
Serial numbers 201- 600 Begins November 30th (400 units)
Serial numbers 601- 1100 Begins December 30th (500 units)
Serial numbers 1101- 1600 Begins January 30th (500 units)
Serial numbers 1601- 2200 Begins February 30th (500 units)
Serial numbers 2201- 2700 Begins March 30th (500 units)
Serial numbers 2701- 3400 Begins April 30th (700 units)
Serial numbers 3401- 4100 Begins May 30th (700 units)

Jim

Thanks but completely useless information if RED has not provided you with serial numbers ?

Come on RED... you can do better!

hi,My serial number is 769,it shows that my number would be delivered "begin" Dec. 30th.
Should I still wait from Dec.30th, or can I get it ON Dec. 30th?
Because I am planning to go over to LA, I have to schedule for the tichet and other stuff. The otehr question is, about the payment, what is the possible way to pay? by visa card or by check? or other ways? thank you very much

Besides the fact that the schedule is prone to frequent changes, December 30th is a Sunday. I wouldn't take that schedule as the gospel truth, but rather a loose guideline as to when your particular camera might be ready.

Obviously, this is a loose guideline. But one thing of interest is that we will convert all orders received to serial numbers in the next couple of weeks. That should provide all customers with a bit better feel of where they stand.

This make a difference, thanks mr Jannard.
I will call you Jim after the coffe mentioned in reply #58.
