Adjusted Delivery Schedule...

I'll be honest, I'm disappointed with the constant slipping of dates but won't be refunding anytime soon.. I'd much rather be told, 'You'll get it when it's done Kid' rather than plan on a date, then plan on another date, etc. The waiting is the hardest part.. I'm planning on 2008 for delivery..

Hi RGDfilms,

If you don't take into consideration what Red is doing, that is both their product and the openess of the development, then I can understand your frustration; however I think you don't get it. Dates have always been tentative. We're all waiting, we've all seen our delivery dates slip. When I read your post, I think "Oh come on, please !". However, I think when people from Red, Jim in particular reads a post like yours, he must be really frustrated, which I think results in the kind of comment like the new thread he started : Delivery scgedule, hand to mouth
http://205.234.134.160/forum/showthread.php?t=5293

I understand people coming from the outside have a hard time with the fanboy/fangirl attitude that is often found on this forum, and some critical perspective is useful sometimes. However many of the encouragements come from people who really feel involved in the whole process, because of Jim's approach (and yes it is also very clever marketing, you got to hand it to him), and this is very hard to grasp for people who aren't involved. For these same fans, the above comments, and others much harsher, are also very hard to grasp.

All this to say, Red's motto has been from day one, "All things subject to change, count on it", and considering the mountains Red is stepping over, they were bound to meet some difficulties along the way. Being told what they're aiming for, then learning of the difficulties met along the way, makes us, in some ways, travel this difficult road with them. As hard as it is, I thank them for it.

Cheers,
Damien

Thank you very much Jim; having a serial number will make me all the difference in a way I find it difficult to describe. It's not about, "now I have a serial number my camera will be delivered on such a date", it's the thing that says "wow my camera will be that one and it's for real!" When schedules are adjusted for whatever reason, I can see straight away where I am in the loop. That means a lot to me personally, thank you!

I like the updates from Jim. And I like his advice. I would not plan
any productions around an anticipated ship date. I am not telling anyone
about RED, I am not rolling out websites or publishing prices until
I get the RED in my hands and can feel confident that I can deliver footage
that is better than the tools available right now.

Yes...thank you, this timestamp to serial number will be making life much easier for many. I know things are always subject to change but I would like to start with something. Should us timestamp holders just wait for an email?

best

Besides the fact that the schedule is prone to frequent changes, December 30th is a Sunday. I wouldn't take that schedule as the gospel truth, but rather a loose guideline as to when your particular camera might be ready.
my fav is that feb 30th.. :)

Serial numbers 1601- 2200 Begins February 30th (500 units)

hi,My serial number is 769,it shows that my number would be delivered "begin" Dec. 30th.
Should I still wait from Dec.30th, or can I get it ON Dec. 30th?
Because I am planning to go over to LA, I have to schedule for the tichet and other stuff. The otehr question is, about the payment, what is the possible way to pay? by visa card or by check? or other ways? thank you very much
you know.. jim will provide this personally.. be sure of that..

I'm not sure how the time stamp works, but I ordered my RED on August 24, 2007 and my order number is 29325427. I hope I'm not down at #4000. I'm supposed to be shooting a film with this camera come June.

I'll quit being so honest then about my feelings with this board.

Honestly, after Jim's latest thread, I've just decided to not count on the Red until the Red is in my hands, whenever that is.. When I do get it, it will be great, but I'm not going to anticipate the camera anymore/ nor make future decisions or business plans until I have it..And all future release dates that Red gives, I'll take with a grain of salt, and generally just ignore.. Don't get me wrong though, I appreciate what Red is doing, I'm a filmmaker first and a customer second, just like you all..

Conversion of orders to serial numbers ?

Conversion of orders to serial numbers ?

Obviously, this is a loose guideline. But one thing of interest is that we will convert all orders received to serial numbers in the next couple of weeks. That should provide all customers with a bit better feel of where they stand.

Jim, to my knowledge you have not yet published a conversion of orders to serial numbers yet, can you please update us all on this?

Please advise... Many thanks

Would it be possible to know how many people have their names on the list, so I could estimate where I would be if I placed an order now? I'd like some idea of when I'd need to pay the rest of the balance.

Also if I did place an order and for some reason my shares tumble (yeah right  ) and I'm without funds for a few weeks, could I allow the person next in line to take my camera until I can afford the purchase?

By the way I just wanted to mention that Jim's dedication to keeping everyone 'in the know' is amazing, perhaps unprecedented. It's very much appreciated.

Just A Reminder:
The Evf Are Not Ready, Just As Your Camera 1-100 Needs To Be Updated/ Upgraded. These First Few 100+ Cameras Are Like Prototypes....this Is New Tech.....things Will Take A While. Relax, You Are Part Of The R&d. As Of 10/26/07...evf, Reddrives Have No Ship Date.........listen To Jim...this Is New Stuff!!!!

Jim

Over three weeks have passed, Jim. Still no news?

I don't doubt they're busy. No doubt I'm restless, either ;-)

With this kind of community and all the guessings , I can't see a big reason why the people at red are seeming scared to publish their order numbers. They don't
take this route publishing even more confidential information.
I can understand that it has to do with marketing and not letting other brands giving that kind of information, but if you order the camera , they should make some kind of clear statement on when you will receive the unit itself.
Given it some kind of possible or estimated delay perhaps, but we must be able to do some kind of planning of upcoming projects, unless you're very rich and purchase these cameras like they're are just toys to you.
