  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ABC's " THE GATES"

Your own Mike Most is handling all of the color grading on this show, working directly from the R3d files using Baselight. Episode 3 is being completed tomorrow.

Even though you didn't ask, I also did the grading work on the 187 Detroit pilot (primarily Red, but also using Canon 7D and Iconix cameras), and am working on the series Covert Affairs, which will be airing on USA Network shortly (also primarily Red, with some shots on Canon). The facility I'm with (Next Element by Deluxe, in Burbank) will also be doing the finishing work on both Southland and Shameless (Julius Friede did the grading on the Southland series and the Shameless pilot).

And (finally, at least for this post...) 187 Detroit is not yet committed to using Red on the series (for one thing, they haven't hired a DP yet, at least not as of this past Thursday), but they were happy with it on the pilot, which was shot by Jimmy Muro. As was I.

congratulations Mike. Good to see people in SoCal getting work.

Brook just beeped me with a few more shows shot on MX coming this season:

Shameless [Showtime]
187 Detroit [ABC]
Pretty Little Liars [ABC Family]
Rizzoli & Isles [TNT]
Southland [season 3]

Nice, Jarred! I was the DIT on the Shameless pilot [will likely come back for the series], the 187 Detroit pilot, Pretty Little Liars [season 1], the Rizzoli & Isles pilot [Nate Kalushner is the DIT on the 1st season] and the first two seasons of Southland [will likely return depending on scheduling]. The RED ONE has really exploded in TV land... and that's all just in the last few months. Good times!

The Red Critical Mass is forming before Epic. :emote_22_yikes:

Universal acceptance in movie industry is slowly happening for Red and hope it penetrates more reach with the launch of DSMC camera EPIC!

It's probably not coincidental that those last few months directly equate to the time the Mysterium X sensor has been available :wink5:

BTW, I really enjoyed doing the 187 pilot. I was a bit disappointed that Jimmy couldn't make it in while we were finishing it, but I worked directly with Jeffrey and I think we really did it justice, with essentially all of our grading choices being story driven. I think Jimmy will like where we took it.

Nice! Everything's looked good that I've seen from it so far, I dug the trailer. Were there any significant changes from the LUTs we created on set?

Having been the DIT on the pilot up here in Vancouver it's great to hear they're sticking with RED!

We shot the first season of Big Time Rush (Nickelodeon) with three REDs. The premiere was the highest rated on Nickelodeon history and it beat every show on basic cable in it's time slot with 7 million viewers. We are scheduled to start season 2 with 20 more episodes on July 19th, this time with the MX sensor.

Talking of shot on RED, this:

is currently being shot on the Isle of man and a brief shot of the crew at work was included in a TT preview tv show a couple of days ago. I'm pretty sure that I saw the RED logo on one of the cameras.........anyone in the UK working on this who can confirm?

Great to hear.

What's everyone's take on workflows for the different shows? I'm sure a range, but are there unifying techniques and/or applications for the RED and television?

Broad question I guess...

Jimmy Muro shot you??

Covert Affairs looks ok - although it's more "spy stuff"; if Mr. Glassner can curtail the ultra-expository dialog that characterizes CSI it may have a chance. Then again, I'd watch Ms. Perabo stare at a wall for 50 minutes each week... :hand:

Just had this confirmed by Cinemanx, they are using RED.
