Not looking for anything specific but what are some of you thinking? Obviously earlier on, when demand is higher and availability is lower, prices will be crazy. If you had to guess, which bracket will it be in:

Bracket A (The Arri 65 bracket): $7,500-$10,000 per day.
Bracket B: $5,000-$7,500 per day.
Bracket C: $2,500-$5,000 per day.
Bracket D: $1,000-$2,500 per day.
Random NoFilmSchool User Estimation Bracket: $400 per day with a Cinema Lens set and operator. :)

It got me thinking though, what will the price range be? It is quite a bit more (list) than any other RED camera and the only "peer" is not available for purchase and goes for $10,000 a day.

Where'd you get that rental estimate for Alexa 65? My information is that this is way high. The Alexa 4:3 Plus is about $1500 a day in LA, but I bet that could be reduced with haggling. My bet is that Alexa 65 would not be more than 3 times that.

Bear in mind a good lens package could easily add a few thousand bucks to the cost. Note also that there's typically a 3-day charge for a 7-day rental. The fixed expenses are always high: DIT, grip truck, electrical, and so on.

The typical rental price in LA for a lot of stuff works out to 2% of the item cost per day. So if you have a $10,000 "thing," it'll rent for $200 a day... but it's negotiable. Many suppliers will throw in extra stuff for free and/or give you a package deal.

As this stuff ages, it's gonna be a lot cheaper a year, two years, three years from now. 12K is coming.

I heard it from a few places but I don't recall exactly where. What did you hear it was at?

As it ages, obviously it goes down. At first when there aren't many cameras out in the wild and demand is high it will go for more. That's my main question...for the first 6-12 months as a few rental houses get them...what would the ballpark be?

At 2% (assuming the price is $80,000) it would be $1,600 for the brain. I can see that. Maybe higher for a while until more people have them?

for basic kit, no glass, I hope to see $2K/day and $5K for a week.

I suspect even double north of those prices won't dent demand...
oh imagine all those sweet sweet establishing wides...
and wicked 3 shots

In Los Angeles, Bracket C.

Keep in mind it's a 6 figure camera when it comes down to it. Or damn near it.

Weapon 6K is on the far end of Bracket D for some.

no one rents alexa 65 body only, the 10k quote per day includes a lot more. same with 8k red, they would rent full packages with accessories pre glass being over 100k in value. if you skip the top end panavision/vantage 70mm glass the red can use xenon or cp2s or canon cines, or xeen or still glass even...you could control your tier costs via glass pretty easily on the red, alexa 65 not so much unless your cropping the hell out of it or get a medium format set modified like Phil did instead of letting arri rentals or panavision deal with that aspect

Yeah, I assumed a full working 8K package. What do you think it will go for?

A few places? Alexa 65 is only available to rent through Arri rentals, they will not even allow sub-rentals last time I checked.
There are still not that many bodies or lens sets, so depending on what you are shooting the body is about $3000/day+ but $7500 is way off.

No you cant really cheap out on lenses on the Alexa65 at this point, its XPL mount - no adapters yet, but the IBE rehoused lenses do support LDS metadata which Red still does not.

Weapon 8k, probably $1000/day, it will still be perceived as the "cheaper" option no matter how slow Red trickles out the 8k upgrades.

*A few sources. That number seems to have come up a few times but I'm not sure what all was included.

$1,000/day for a full kit? I think that could be a stopping point after a year or two...at first I would assume closer to $2,000.

I would guess closer to $2,500. There is nothing else on the market besides the 65, that gives you Vista Vision sensor size. Not to mention they will be very rare for a while I suspect.

Weapon 8K for $1000/day??? Ridiculous. If that happens within the first year of availability, I will drop all my camera equipment in the deepest part of Lake Michigan (900' deep) and open a taco stand.

IMO, It is much more likely to rent in the same range as Alexa XT, $2000-$2500/day.

At first - C.

After there are enough of them on the market - D.

No way it's getting near Alexa 65, a camera you can't buy, that has a proprietary mount, it's own set of lenses etc.

I was thinking more along the lines of an a7sii or fs7+speedbooster but sure 5d ml raw isn't bad if you like that sort of thing.

My original statement was clearly defining Full Frame Cinema Cameras. If you want to have a discussion comparing a FS7 or A7sii to a 8K Red Weapon Cinema camera, thats fine, but you have to have it with someone else.
