Hey guys. So I've been using a new prototype 2x anamorphic single focus solution for a bit now, and I have to say, I'm incredibly impressed.

There are only a few single focus anamorphic solutions out there. Some of them have horrible optics, while others that are good, you can't even order.

Here are some BTS picts along with samples shot in 8K 6:5 2x anamorphic mode on Helium. Most of these are shot between 2.8-4.0 with the Helios 44-2 taking lens. The interview is the Zenit/Helios 85mm.

More to come on this VERY...just wanted to share this with you guys.

Look good! Curious to know more...I am on the hunt for a good anamorphic solution that doesn't involve buying a whole set!

These look pretty good. In the meantime I bought the FM lens a while back since the rectilux is pretty hard to get your hands on. The FM lens is pretty awesome with a great close focus. The Rectilux is said to be a bit sharper than the FM lens, but not by a lot but the close focus on the FM lens is pretty awesome. They stopped producing the FM lens a while ago, but it looks like they opened the production back up. It's not cheap, but not crazy expensive either. It's catered to the schneider cinelux projector lens which is a really sharp and clean anamorphic. So paired with a more vintage taking it makes for a nice single focus anamorphic setup. I've seen and heard people modding the FM lens to work with sankors, B&H and Kowas as well, but that takes some tweaking of the projector lens I believe. Anyways hope this helps.

This is a test done a few years ago with epic dragon and the FM lens.

Hey Chris, do you know is that single focus setup something that they're putting out soon? The market is pretty bare with competition right now. Rectilux is kinda dictating the market since the rangefinder isn't really ideal and quite a bit softer than the rectilux and FM lens. Can you say the name of the people making it? Thanks again for posting those frames Chris. Good looking frames.

Yes, it will be soon.

What was the general f-stop the samples were shot at?

2.8-4.0

Wow, i'm very interested in this. I've been playing with Richard Gales Olivia scope which is 1.5X ana, single focus and can go uptp 28mm wide on dragon 6K. its great but heavy and i'd love a hand held solution

Yea, I heard that was a pretty hefty setup. This one is pretty lightweight, and I've run multiple days with it already.

Nice images. Interesting to compare this one with a proper front-facing ANA lens side by side.

Yea, I think it's the closest thing to Lomo anamoprhics...has the same look when paired with a Helios taking lens. You still have sharpness, but not too much.

Chris,

can you tell us some more info on what parts you used ?

thank you

This looks interesting.

How does it compare to the dna hardcore/rectilux? And whats the widest it can go on helium 8k? Tnks!

I haven’t used the hardcore DNA yet, but I’ve been very happy with this solution, even though it’s like the 2nd prototype and not the final build. Like most SF solutions, it does telescope out about 22mm when focusing.

The anamorphic scope of your choice is housed within and is either user replaceable or you can have the engineer do it for you. Currently it has a Schneider 2x scope inside. That, along with a Helios 44-2 taking lens on a Weapon Helium in 8K, it’s free and clear in widescreen (almost positive in 8kff as well but will need to confirm).

I’ve tried it with a 38 as well, and you do have some vignetting in all flavors of 8K. Even with car interior work, i still found the 44-2 wide enough since it’s anamorphic, it really widens things out.
