6K Dragon-X DSMC2 Petition!

+1 Scarlet W probably, but I guess you already have 50 signatures :D
However, now with the KOMODO 6K around the corner ...

Dragon-X 6K would be like 75 fps @ 6K FF and 100 fps @ 6K WS I believe?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but here's how I understand it:

-Dragon-X automatically gets 6k via firmware update for free (an optional faceplate with "6k" engraved on it would cost $500~600).
-Scarlet-W and Weapon 6k have to pay $5k to get to Dragon-X 6k (since they have to replace/update boards & body to DSMC2 Unified)
-Scarlet/Epic-Dragon would cost around $10k to get to Dragon-X 6k (so Jarred thinks it's not worth it; better off eBaying>buying a new DX6k).

Anything I'm missing?

+1 Dragon-X
If there ever is a reasonable path from Epic to Dragon-X 6k I am in for +3

new warranty, IPP2 in camera, all of the goodies of DSMC2 (wifi built in , scratch mic, etc) along with an easier way to have an upgrade path in the future... to think of a few

Ours doesn't have IPP2 in-camera (unless I'm mistaken), but it has built-in WiFi and a scratch mic, and we can upgrade to either Helium or Gemini.

So, apart from a new warranty, and IPP2 in-camera, would there be any other benefits?

If the cost is 10k from a Epic Dragon, from my side I add extra 3k and go with an 2nd Gemini.
For eBay the Epic Dragon it will be hard to keep a good value because 1st January Red won't repair them. (maybe something change since the feedback on fb)

Yes we will fix them as long as we have parts available. It's no longer just an automatic no. I think the warranty text should reflect that now. And thank you.

Not sure if this was clarified but if upgrading from scarlet-w to dragon-x do we get a new sensor as well? Or dragon-x and SW are both the same sensor?

Thats the plan... albeit a completely half baked plan. We , and when I say we , I really mean myself and all of you here, are kinda making this all up as we go along, but technically we should be good.

The price of replacing the face plate I just pulled out of my ass so don't hold me to it .

Oops sorry.. opening the thread back up.

no no, I don't think we need to adjust the price... the 5k Dragon-X already have 6K sensors in them. We just need about a month of software work to get IPP2 working on 6k Dragons.

This wont work on Raven.. those sensors are hard 4.5k sensors. And some dragon sensors were software masked down to a smaller resolution that had defects down to a smaller resolution but that was mostly the VV dragons.

And this wont work on DSMC1 users on the list because remember the unified internal boards didn't happen until DSMC2.... But I think most of you have an upgrade path to Dragon-X so you can just do that to get you to this.

So.... the cleanest way to do this since our friend looks like he is gonna get his 50 signatures is to just turn the 5K Dragon-X into 6K Dragon-x and then let the Scarlet-W and MG folks do that normal $4995 upgrade to them.

A bit messy on our side.. some cameras will need more changes some less, but I think it will all balance out in the end and the upgrade fee Scarlet-W and MG users pay should cover the expense of doing this.. and Dragon-X owners just wake up with a better camera after hopefully just a new firmware... so I don't think we will need to charge any more for new Dragon-X 6K cameras.. the 5K Dragon-X just goes away, and Dragon-X owners are forever indebted to the MG and Scarlet-W guys and girls that initiated this change in the program.

The biggest problem with this is a cosmetic one. Scarlet-W and MG users that do this will get new bodies that will say Dragon-X 6k on them so they are ok.. but existing Dragon-X owners with 5K branded on their cameras that now shoot 6k will need to either live with that.. or we can figure out some sort of body upgrade fee to swap out that front panel if it bothers them. Kind of the worst panel to change because it requires a full camera rebuild just to change that, but still I don't see that being more than $500 or $600.

How does that sound?

Jarred you are an amazing person, from letting me upgrade my raven early because I was in the area to now this. RED is hands down the best company out there.
