  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

65mm? The plot gets even THICKER?

Looks like the camera is maxed out at 120FPS at 4K at 5:1, yellow on the framerate meaning maximum FPS as we all know.

Dont forget its probably shooting 4K 4:3 Anamorphic, as opposed to say 4KHD, so the data rates are likely much higher than were used to at 4K. Makes me think the fps at 4K HD is likely considerably higher...

The second Black Lens is a LEICA S Medium format Zoom Lens... :)

This is a lens that never was, or was it?

Is you is or is you ain't?

I think is is an old Red Anamorphic Vista prototype, that seems to be what Phil is suggesting. The Hawk on The Weapon appears to be a new 65. It tells me that we are entering 65mm territory, but Red is not doing the lenses. It's just a guess.

It's none of those ;) heh heh

Are you bearing witness to the existence of a new Red Anamorphic prototype? 65mm perhaps Hmmmm?

It it would be much easier to tell if the puppet master were behind these remarks if Jarred had a tm on heh, heh, heh. ;-)

The "lens that never was" was something that RED had in development but they probably didn't deem it "good enough".

Or they just decided that cameras, not lenses is their main business (at least at the time), and thus should focus their development resources a bit.

Honestly I have been thinking that that might change again, if the Vista and 65mm formats are as successful as they can be...

Then there is an open market for lenses just there.

Yeah thats why at one point I asked mods to erase this post. I quickly realized I could be wrong. I own a lot of MF glass, and its certainly the right "size", but at this point nothing is certain.

65mm I believe has been on RED's roadmap, and Im sure they'll get to it at some point, but may not be this year with Weapon. Vista Vision already is amazing!

Jarred did already state that the bigger one would come later. Shane seems to agree that we won't have to wait two years. Time will prove us right, 65mm is coming!

Really Jarred commented on 65mm? Cool. Makes sense they would...

Jarred didn't say 65 specifically. The old roadmap called for something different but Jim is on record stating that Dragon should only be compared to 65mm film.

You're still missing the point Nick: of course we can make do, but I'm talking about standards in a very very demanding area of cinema and TV,
not the Bill and Nick show. Think about it, where do you see this going, cut and pasting shit together to make a larger than FF or 65mm format "work"????
Let's think outside our wants. It's a pretty big and demanding biz, and RED knows this and surely must be contemplating how lenses and sensors might harmonize
in a predictable and dependable way for what they see as moving from a rarified space to a ubiquitous "format".

Cut me little slack on my delivery: I'm sitting here well medicated after a botched wisdom teeth job.

I actually totally agree with you.

But that's why the Weapon 6K model exists. Shoot 6K and 5K s35 and use all the Spherical glass you want. And shoot Prores. Everything that exists with Dragon 6K exists with Weapon 6K (except I'm assuming better specs).

For Ananamorphic 4:3, and "full frame" coverage, shoot Weapon Vista Vision...which presumably can still "crop down" to 6K/5K. I don't think the Vista Vision cam is forcing anyone to do anything, it just provides more options. On one cam, you could do: VISTA VISION, ANAMORPHIC, Dragon 6K, Dragon s35 5K, all the way down the s16 2.5K. It can basically do it all, from what I can tell.

So I don't think we need to worry too much. The s35 workflow is still completely covered. But options are good, and shooting Vista Vision on CNE, Xenons, or Compact Zooms is still perfectly fine...and yes...exciting.
