according to apple-history (which are usually pretty good and right with what they say) the early 2008 model is only capable of 32GB in total;

Also Stephen this is DDR3 at 1333 Mhz and your 2008 machine would only accepts DDR2 at 800 Mhz

No - you might always be able to use the same type with just a higher frequency but DRR2 and DDR3 is not the same type!
