  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4k / 2k PRO RES / DNxHD MODULE - who wants one.

Trust me.. we are listening. What is coming will be shocking. Wish I could say more.

This can't come soon enough, if Red only knew who many rentals go to Alexa because of ProRes and have many Epic's sit on the shelf because Alexa is said to be easier to work with... come on Red please help us Epic owners now, this is a serious problem.

If we had this module I'd be shooting my commercial spots this year on Epic instead of Alexa.....It was all about fast post. :( I'm in for the ProRes option!

One of the best posts of the year!! Can't come soon enough :), can you say anything about the timeframe? Weeks? Months? Half a year?

I think RED are taking a few leaves out of APPLES book regarding product and release information.... They have been burnt big time in the past with promised delivery dates.

Well thats true, but i heard somewhere it probably will be coming quite soon :) i have my hopes up, go red!

lets stop stroking the Fire chief's nerves, he says its coming... Nuff said lets wait patiently.

Mark Toia, how easy is it to swap the PL to the Canon mount?
Does anybody even do this or is it not the safest thing to do?

2 minute job, comes with instructions, very very very very simple.
Stress free

Right.
But you can't rely on the Canon lenses holding back focus when changing mounts. That's not RED's fault, the precision of the mount (we have the Ti version) is awesome. But those still lenses are not manufactured to the same standards as expensive cine glass, and to my knowledge there is no device like the RED Focus for a quick adjustment. You may need same time to check BF here.

Nice mockup and nice module idea, would be a best seller for sure...

don't want to hijack the thread but here is my dream module...

PMA.png

it acts both as a module adapter and a mini Pro-IO with :

an additionnel EVF/LCD port on dumb side for AC, 2 extra user buttons and an SD slot to store cam presets and if possible serve as emergency firmware reinstall (similar to what we had on the RED ONE)
Not sure it is at all doable size-wise but that would be an awesome module to keep a small camera but use 2 RED displays when needed.

...

this would be INCREDIBLE!!!! solves soooo many issues in such a manageable sized module. As a small time filmmaker I'm fine using the wooden camera XLR adapter and the ports that come on the body are enough for my standard rig. The PRO-IO would be overkill on 90% of my shoots, its definitely a piece that i would be more willing to rent when needed. Great concept Mikael

Yes vote from me. We all know that the Red Raw route is great but beyond that the secret to success is compatibility. If you can provide rushes in the form that production wants them then everyone wins, Arri worked this out but the Alexa will never be as versatile as the Epic or Scarlet can be across TV, documentary and more esoteric work.
Surely this has to happen?
