I think it also has to do with taking advantage of the higher Redcode numbers in Epic. Epic can do Redcode 250. Not sure if Scarlet can.

Last we heard, Scarlet was up from RC42 to RC100.
Epic must be like a miniaturized super computer.

A typical 1080P 60fps camera handle about 125 Megapixels per second.

Epic can handle 2.5+ GigaPixels per second (2500+ MegaPixels/s).

So, Epic could process 1000fps in 2K 16:9 or my math is bad... ?

OK, what do we know?
1. No temporal HDR is being used.
2. The MX-Sensor has two sensitivity ranges: ISO 25-250 or ISO 200-2000.
3. MX is a custom CMOS sensor, so probably each element of the array can be programmed separately.

My guess: they use a kind of spatial HDR, where pixels have different sensitivity.

Assuming that the two sensitivity ranges are "real", it's a good idea (imho)... Half resolution for the lower range of the exposure, half for the higher. Maybe implemented with an alghoritm that can leave full resolution in between...

Okay now I'm really exited!!

I love to be able to get PhotoRealistic HDR images, I just simply would love even more to be able to do so in Motion, and Still capture with Live and moving subjects!!

I'm never been a real follower of the over exaggerated HDR look, but absolutely love the HDR capabilities in bringing to life that of which is unseen in most standard captures, and bring to life the most insane amount of detail.

Jim, I'd just like to say that I don't care how the magic works, I'm just grateful for it.

Thank you :-)

Ketch, thats a stunning image.

...Might we be shooting moving versions in a year?!

Thanks Alex.. it was my first Test of HDR with 3 images, but 5 or 9 or what ever Jim's Magic #21 will be doing, now that is an other thing to see all together!!

I sure hope will be just in few months ;~)

News like this makes it somewhat painful to pull the R1 out on a shoot. Its like wearing your old skate shoes with a hole in them after you left the shoe store empty handed. Epic sounds so sick. Can't wait to get my hands on mine and start capturing some history. Hopefully before a couple of the biggest motorcycle jumps the world has ever seen go down. 450 feet in 5K at 100fps in HDR would be beyond my wildest dreams.
Good luck Red Team, you guys rock.

Damn, thought was the only one who skated/shot any skating on this forum ha. I'd love to shoot red, painful is pulling out the hvx200 everyday for an SD finishing.

Ok I'm kinda confused. So there's HDRx and there's this new magic hdr? Or is it the same thing? And also I was under the impression that HDRx (if it's a separate thing) was going to definitely included on the scarlet. By update, not at release anyways. I'm I perceiving this correctly?
