Zacuto have just released an exclusive "RED-Ready" v-mount battery plate by Switronix. You can check it out here.

What are everyone's opinions on this? Looks like it would make a good accompaniment to the GP-TS-RED.

Just to clarify, this is not our product. Zacuto is using OUR GP-S plate. The modification is Zacuto's own. As for mounting, it will only work with Zacuto's rig, and will not mount on a RED Plate mount(different hole spacing).

Coupling the GP-TS-RED with the Zacuto Red plate, or with the true RED V Plate is the same thing, and serves the same function.

We've been able to test the RED plate with our GP-TS-RED, and know it works. The data transfer on the RED is a little finicky, and by using the Zacuto RED Plate with the GP-TS-RED may bonk out the data transfer.

Many thanks for the clarification, Vinny.

So, if I wanted to mount the GP-TS-RED to my Zacuto Red Plate (i.e., this), and have it work as intended, what would I need to put on the ol' shopping list?

I think that's more of a question for Zacuto than it is for Switronix.

I guess what I mean to ask is, does it matter what v-mount battery plate I use to attach the GP-TS-RED to in order to have it work as intended? And if it does, am I correct by saying the only "officially" approved v-mount battery plate is the one made by RED?

Apologies for the barrage of questions - I just need to be 100% sure on how everything works.

Morning,

We designed the GP-TS-RED and tested around the RED ONE and a RED V Plate. We know it works well in this application/configuration, and that is the intended use. The GP-TS-RED is wired to work with the RED V Plate standard.

The plate from RED is designed to pass the battery status info. Zacuto states that theirs does this as well (apparently a modification of the original part). Switronix has tested the RED plate with the GP-TS-RED but not the Zacuto. A lot of things that work in theory have issues in practice.

With any V-mount plate the power would always be passed through, it's just a question of the status signal.

OK, gotcha. So the GP-TS-RED has been tried and tested with RED's own v-plate, and works, but hasn't been tried and tested with other RED-compatible v-plates (such as Zacuto's one), so cannot be guaranteed if 100% compatible... Correct me if I'm wrong.

Zacuto's Battery Plate Mod

Zacuto's Battery Plate Mod

Zacuto’s intention in modifying the Switronix GP-S plate is to accommodate customers who want to use Red batteries on our support system for the Red one camera. It will transfer the battery data from one battery to the Red camera. Using the GP-TS-RED with Zacuto’ modified GP-S for the Red is not recommended because the battery level information may be inaccurate. Using the standard GP-TS with the Zacuto’ modified GP-S will not transfer the battery level information to the Red camera. Any of these combinations will always supply the camera with the proper power. S-RED

Thanks for clearing that up, Steve. You, too, Mitch & Vinny.

By any chance, can the RED battery-plate mount to the Zacuto Red Plate V3?
