  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st 24 hours with an Epic

OK.

It is a Zeiss, but not a super...

Edit:
LOL David, you edited your post, should I edit my answer?

OK...

It is a 100 master, with rainbow flares and all...

Yes.

I did.

I initially said Ziess,
then I thought you were testing MK III superspeeds, but then I saw that it was to "true" corner to corner to be those, so then I switched to master primes, because those and RPP's have that similar characteristic.

So GUILTY of second guessing for sure and changing my answer.

But now you go the long convoluted thought process.

David

Cannot be! Only Red could let such flares happen.
[sarcasm]

:)

LOL!
Deanan, you know I dig the RPPs, but where I am testing the Epic now, "we" have been reluctant.
We are starting to get a good diversity of nice PL glass, though.

Philip Orlandic pointed out the rainbow flare in the first image.

I must admit I just liked it and didn't think much more about it.

The masters are quite hard to flare compared with other lenses, though...

Still (and not related to glass), the huge gamechanger for me with the Epic is how it rolls of in the top and bottom, and keeps a good image all the way through the range.
Sure.
I can make noisy Epic images, but if you don't push it waaaaay beyond, it is only nice, and even over the top, it just looks quite organic.

I'll post some overexposure comparisons with the Alexa when I come round to it.

The Alexa ain't bad, but the Epic ain't very bad either... :-)

Or as they say over here: Badass!

Thanks Gunleik,
waiting to see the power plant stucture.
I saw one nice pict on your FB today (Blond talent of Sanctuary with a white short dress).
Me liked it.
Keep up the teasing man
Regards

The link to the movie you posted is extrodinary! Just having that safety of the latitude changes they way you can shoot! You can literally light a scene with the knowledge that you can bring things out of the depths of the shadows.. Just gets me more excited to get MINE and play out here in the Florida SUN.. I can't wait to shoot some beach footage and see how the sand holds up to a dark blue ocean.. This is something that challenges even film..

Thanks for getting hired to shoot that film and be our tester!!

:-)

Some more from that shoot...
Some more...

The Model is Celestic.
Go work with her, she's a gem! :-)

Call me crazy, but i think the +4 stops recovered images with HDRx Look amazing, it has an intangible beautiful quality to it. I am am half tempted to shoot everything 3 stops over and HDRX recovered.

Hm...
There is a difference between the HDR shots and shots from only one of the channels...

It's tempting to say:
Well, then just shoot with 32X the shutter or use only the X-track, but the effect is different...
I am very much looking foreward to more ways of controlling the blend. In the meantime I have resolved to a shake script with a luma-key to control the blend...

One of the 5 concept shorts we shot was a paraphrase of the classical "A trip to the countryside" in a silent-movie tradition.
Will be in colors
But will do it with posters and all.
And as you can see, something good comes out of it...:

Edit:
As a BTW:
If you right-click on the image and choose "Show Image" a larger version will appear...

Gunleik, you are blowing my mind right now :)

Gunleik, you are blowing my mind right now :)

Nope
It is ONLY the Epic doing that... :-)

Seriously, though, the cam is so versatile that if you have an idea about how you light and shoot to get the image you want, only the dynamics can be "limiting"
And then...
You just shoot HDR :-)

The image is there, all the way to the top and the bottom like no other cam I have seen
I understand all the enthusiasts...
I am kinda one of them

It is in no way a shrinked R1MX
They share very few charracteristica, except the sensor.

the R1MX and R1 M are much closer to eachother.

The Epic is just...

Ok...

Let me put it like this:

Imagewise, the Epic is just tremendous fun and security
You want to go and have fun and put the exposure exactly where you want it, have a nice preview which doesn't look like a "video tap" as I have allways considered the R1 preview.
You do NOT have to think about: "But I'll fix that in post"

It's quite simple to operate. And probably will just get better in that respect.
And very reassuring to work with.
But I'll keep posting stuff to this thread, 'till I am done with the tests sometimes around october 1st

Sometimes I'll discuss what I see
Sometimes not...

Even though not many are commenting here, the views kind of suggests that this is good for some to see...

Please just ask questions
And I'll try to answer
Probably can't answer everything

I will not go into discussing issues that are clearly "beta" related
I also don't want to discuss ergonomics, as we're still working out how we want the cam set up.

But I don't mind discussing the fun.
That is:
The imagery this little bastard produces... :-)

LOL

Cheers!

G

Thanks David

I also shot a collage from Oslo the day of the roses...

This statue is the symbol for one of our largest newspaper: VG - and was facing the bomb on some distance...

Awsome images gunleik! Was just wondering if you have found a sweetspot for compression rate. I tend to go minimum compression always, but my raid systems does not agree with me:p
