  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1501-1750?

I paid on the April 8th and the wire was posted to my account on the 10th. I called last Thursday after I returned from NAB, they said it was on the bench; system check, back focus, etc. They told me it was gong to ship first part of this week. Now, I just got word of the delay. I think my camera should go out before the others that jump in front of me. They have had my cash for two weeks, I don't think it fair to delay. I'm hoping for the best, they said they would contact me later and let me know where I stand.

Wow and here I am thinking it sucked for me. I feel your pain.... a moment of silence for our fellow RED brothers with cameras on the table only to be delayed for weeks. Your suffering is incalculable.

I just got a vague email from my rep saying that they're working on it but couldn't give me any ideas of what week it would ship... this week, next week, etc.

No one seems to be mentioning the big white elephant in the room... (NAB) Undoubtedly it had a huge effect on our deliveries.

People holding out with serial numbers before us who then executed their orders once they saw the NAB offerings and estimated delivery times.... And obviously the drain on company resources for he event, even though they claimed that they were trying to prevent that from happening...

I wonder what the interest is on $5,000,000 a week?
Conservative figures: 200 Cameras packages at approximately $25K each.

What can you do... just have to roll with the punches... After all it is the camera of the future... It's just a little more personal when their holding your funds I guess.

You should be happy that they at least collected your funds... I'm just a lowly 10% depositor on the totem pole. At least you can say I paid for my RED One... I have no such vestige of notoriety. Never in my life have I ever wanted a company to collect my money so desperately. Just so that I'd be one step closer to RED #1888. I'm sure this is a feeling reminiscent of the stockholm syndrome.

I want my camera, I want it right now, it's sooo far beyond frustrating after a whole year of waiting...

However I can understand....

...if you want a camera provider who put half of the resources (or more) into overhead, administration, marketing go for Sony/JVC/Canon. If you the real shit, guys who put all their efforts to build the best digital cinema camera ever built - you are in the right pain! There are no shortcuts out there.

...and if we don't all call RED every minute, they get some time over to fullfill our shipments...

Not sure where yet. I think I'm going to be fine. It's just some small interviews and b-roll, no reason to go red. I might hit you up for some gaffer names if my producer doesn't come through.

And yes I will probably get it held at fedex, IF i get a tracking number.

Where in Florida Mike?...

I'd be happy to help you out if you are in my area... (West Palm Beach South to Miami) the only catch is that if you are talking about Thursday May 1st. I have a shoot in the middle of the day for 2-3 hours. Hopefully I'll be using my RED by then... Afterwards I could send out the camera (if I have it) with my tech (both at no charge) if you need it. Although I doubt that you want to mix HVX & Red One footage.

Jared's post this morning of delays only boost my concerns.

Have you considered using a different shipping address of an area that you will be in at the time and having a "Hold at Fed Ex Office" and going and showing ID and picking it up while on the road?

I would think that there has to be a work around to getting the camera too you while you are on the road.

Feel free to PM me to discuss further if you like...

I am beginning to feel like a bit of an idiot. I wired my money on April 2nd, the day after the emails went out. I wanted to get the money out immediately because I had plans to shoot with it in April, and I had been told that the cameras would be going out in order of payment. Now my rep tells me that they are being sent out in order of serial number instead. I am really OK with waiting, and I'm not really surprised that it has been difficult for Red to keep up with such an ambitious production schedule. At the same time, I think there needs to be a bit more consistency with regard to these fulfillment policies so that people don't feel unnecessarily jerked around. I would much rather have just left the money in my account where it was making me interest.

I think you nailed it. I have a friend who had his check to RED clear on April first and his camera still hasn't shipped. Nothing special about his order either--just the RED, production pack, LCD, and some batteries. It's great that people from earlier numbers are starting to have their RED's shipped. However, if someone from 1000-1750 paid before, let's say camera 890, then they should get it shipped first. Of course, the rep could be wrong and we could be considering crap (of course, without a RED to shoot with we all have too much time on our hands.)

Just saw in another thread that someone in the same 1500-1750 group with a higher serial number than mine received their camera today. I hope that means that they paid on April 1st and that Red are in fact shipping in payment order. Could be a good sign. Then again, I might wind up putting my head through a wall.

I Paid in full a couple of weeks before the emails went out as I took advantage of a good exchange rate. So my figuring is that I would have been one of the first to pay in full for 1501 to 1750 and I still have no tracking numbers.

I understand the back log but as you said shipping in order of payment....

Yes, I agree. They need to ship in order of payment. It's not fair to tie up peoples hard earned money, which they could be earning a crap interest rate on. I don't think it would be fair for someone who passed on their camera to come and jump in front of someone who has paid in full prior to them. They elected to delay their camera. By all means they should be in front of people who have not paid in the 1501-1750 range.

To clear this up - we are shipping in order of payment received and posted to your account at RED for people #1750 and before. No one is "jumping in line" here. The people from early batches who decided to take delivery of their RED ONEs a few weeks ago knew that RED's policy was to get them their cameras within a goal of (30) days. And we are sticking to that. If a later serial number (ie, #1400) paid before say, #1000, #1400 gets their camera first.

After we catch up on #1750 and before for whom we have already received payment, we will send the "Your RED ONE is ready to ship" email to #1751-#2000 and start shipping that batch in order of payment received.

Thanks, BC

I'm cool with that. I wasn't sure, I've been getting mixed feed back. Any idea how it's looking? i.e. time frame, May is approaching quick

Thank you sir.

Can we send in a payment before we receive the approximate total for our order. Heck if you are shipping by who paid first... I want to pay now.
