Holy Shit #2

Holy Shit #2

Wow, this thread seems to go on forever...
No surprise there. Historical day, indeed.
This is changing the industry in a big way.
As a small indie production company, this is incredible for us.
The modularity of the systems is incredible, and for everyone.
BIG thanks to the RED team for the work and the vision.
I will be seeing you at NAB, but would appreciate a way to order for pickup...
Damn, this is some kind of scam! Thank you.

So will these cameras produce better images than my cell phone?

OK OK OK!

Ha hahahaaa!

I still buy the RED ONE anyway. But I am not sure of my Canon 5D MkII.

Let's see. Scarlet FF35, 2 REDhandles, Canon+RED mount, REDmote, RED 15-200mm (3 Lenses), REDram 128GB and BombEVF.

Ok, that's waaaay more than a 5DMkII (say $20,000), but I can shoot movies...

Oh no, wait. Do I need the RED ONE?

And BTW....on a couple of the renderings there is what appears to be a 10-40 mm zoom, either S35 or FF35, didn't anybody else notice that? I don't see it on the announced lenses, but that would CERTAINLY be a lens I'd pay anything for....

Yeah that DOES look like it's a 10-40mm!

Not bad...

Only 4x though so obviously one of the mounted lenses (not the Scarlet integrated one)...

Damn, it took me a few hours to get through all these posts.

RED team, you have gone beyond everyones expectations. This is monumental, and I never thought I'd see the day where all this would happen.

I now have to figure out how I'm going to pay for all these brains...

New guy here. I've been following the forums daily since the original Scarlet relaunch announcement, and I was truly blown away by everything that was being announced over the last few hours.

As I'm a real beginner and just a hobbyist at any rate, I was certainly looking forward to an entry-level system for $3,000. Now my impression is that nothing of the like is currently on the table any more.

It would be really nice to know where the rock-bottom entry point would be, price-wise. That is, the fixed-lense Scarlet brain with the minimum accessories that would enable basic functionality.

I know that the sheer volume and the technology implied in these announcements is mind-boggling, and this certainly looks like a defining moment for cinematography. Yet the original vision of the Scarlet, i.e. a $3,000 (semi)pro camera that works out of the box is pretty much MIA right now.

I hope that particular vision is not completely gone, though.

As a rabid Apple fan, I must say that Red uses a radically different approach to communicating with its community than Apple does... and yet I love it. It's been a great ride so far, just following the breadcrumbs. But I'm looking forward to the day when I'll also be a proud owner of some actual Red metal myself.

My feelings exactly. As someone who was always looking forward to the original Scarlet as the ideal indie run-and-gun cam, I'm feeling a little left out in the cold.

Well, why does Jim hate my hometown so much? It's not only the town of ARRI but of Linhof as well and now he attacks the Technorama... It is obviously a weird and cool idea only one can have who used the 617 and has a wicked mind to think about using this tool as a movie cam! But please do not attack Schneider, there are not so many really good Lensmakers left! Rodenstock is btw in the same town, Schneider unfortunately from further north (but same country... as Zeiss and Leica. Please let me be a little bit proud of this heritage, we have suffered a lot under the Japanese companies taking away a lot of this industry. Do we have to face a second wave?). With Chrosziel, P+S, Panther and Sachtler just outside of this town and somehow having the impression there could be soon Matte Boxes, Tripod, Heads and some other equipment with a red dot on this leaves me to advise Jim not to attend Oktoberfest - Just kidding, ok.?
I am waiting for all the solutions Red wil find for the technical problems with a CMOS of the 617 size - and hope that the local industry will be forced ahead by your ideas and efforts. Living only one block away of Linhof premises and owning some of ther older equipment as some ARRI stuff as well I like to handle this tools too much to watch them going down. So far my 5c, congratulations and hopefully the reality exceeds the expectations!

The Scarlet w/ S35 sensor looks like the most attractive option ... however, I have a feeling that by the time you add the price of the lenses and other gear you're going to come too close to the cost of a RED ONE.

Therefore, I am looking forward to some test footage of the Scarlet with 2/3" prime lenses. I'm interested to see the difference in DOF between a similar 35mm prime and a corresponding lens for the 2/3" Scarlet.

just realized these blocks look like the mamiya 645s!!! yeah!!

You still have the original Scarlet in that first brain with lens setup, although the lack of pricing is a bit disturbing. I would expect it to cost about the same the original Scarlet would cost with needed accessories, probably about $4k or so.

If that's so, I wonder why they didn't give us the price. They may be working on a package deal that would give us the brain, charger and other needed accessories.

It will be very interesting to find out how much interchangeable lenses cost versus the fixed lens model. I guess people will be able to vote with their dollars now.

Wow

Wow

thank you jim and red team... thank you very much

great job, really...

super16mmdigital

I think the reason that there's no price on the lesser Scarlet is because they want to gauge our thoughts here first.... then price it!:shiftyph34r:

I think this is a common dude

I think this is a common dude

One question that keeps popping up and that I would like to know the answer too, is whether or not the S35 can up it's frame rate by dropping resolution. "trade off frame size against increased framerate" does seem to suggest that it will be possible. Guess there is plenty of time to have that one answered though.

WELEASE......BWAIN!
S35 could be perfect for me

WE WANT KNOW.

The lesser Scarlet probably hasn't had it's lens design or lens manufacturer locked down yet.

i'm trying to figure out a rental model for the newcoming cameras.
something like:
there will be lots of fixed lens scarlets out there. rental houses can supply sensor upgrades, lens mounts and accessories when there's the need of shooting more professionally.
Epic is almost overkilling, at this point. almost like a specialty camera. hrd to tell if there is room for it in the every day rental market. probably the 6k 13+ t stops cn make the difference.
rentals will have to buy lots of new lenses anyway.

What about cooling?

If these thing run fans, where do they vent? The various configurations show accessories mounted on practically every surface offered: bottom (mounts), right (handle), front (lens), back (remote), top (bomb-EVF)...

Aha! Never anything on the left side. I was hoping you could mount an LCD over there though...

Or do they vent in front, under the lens? How hot does the lens get, then?
