  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

13th responses here...

While that's technically true, I would like to add that you can get *more* than 13 stops by resampling to lower resolutions. Every fourfold reduction in resolution (e.g. 4K to 2K) results in a full stop less noise, because random noise adds in quadrature.

Daniel, after all my investment on you, you still believe ..... I gotta rent the movie The Last American Virgin again .... Hey Red team, is there a policy on this forum for a refund on emotional and physical labor of typing deposit.

Next week we'll ship a full native workflow for RED in Premiere Pro CS4, After Effects CS4 and even Encore CS4 (the RED to Blu workflow).

It's Christmas come early.

Enjoy.

Terrific! I can't wait to try out your native support on my favorite editing system (CS4 is a huge step forward, by the way). Thank you.

Answer me this please

i will be able to get a 5k s35 epic body and upgrade it over time to a maxed
out epic, essentially the 9k 645 with my original body.

and will the 645 9k epic still do high frame rates at 6k or 5k
like will i be able to do 120 at 5k??

jarred? anybody?

thanks

Truly, truly mind boggling! Thank you Jim and all your incredibly visionary people over at RED. This is the biggest thing in filmmaking since the advent of color! I CAN'T WAIT to get my dirty little paws on Epic!!!!

Weird math...

Weird math...

Great work again Red,

Chart with date/size etc.......

The table seems a bit broken.

The RED ONE is supposed to be available for at-once delivery. Does that mean 12 months?

The Scarlet FF35 sensor is 36x24 mm, not 35x24mm.

The Scarlet 2/3" should be 5MP (3072x1620 = 4 976 640, rounds up) and the RED ONE should be 10,4 MP (4520x2304 = 10 414 080). Yes, they're like that in the brochure.

The REDCODE in the EPICs is 225 or 500, not 22 or 50.

Not that any of this is a big deal...

:) Well, it's hard to convince someone that they're wrong when they see it with their own two eyes (prints and video). Besides, it wasn't wasted, because I learned a lot from you even if you didn't convince me in the end. We tried words, so for our next discussion let's use images.

I'll whip up a demonstration showing that random noise decreases in downsampling (measured in RMS ADU and you can eyeball it for yourself). In a different thread of course...

You'd have to spend $35,000 on an Epic FF35 to get the same specs for stills that you can get out of a $2,700 5D. Maybe you'd be better off buying a Scarlet and a 5D if you want to shoot video and stills.
This is a very valid point. That said, it depends entirely on your priorities. If shooting motion is your thing, but are interested in stills, then FF Scarlet or Epic are right up your alley. If you mostly do still photography, but are dabbling into the world of video, a 5D II is probably the better option.

First Time

First Time

I’ve been watching the Red One Camera evolved over the last two years. I must say, I finally had break to break my silence! I’m down here in Costa Rica. I’ve downloaded the manuals and casually looked through them.
BUT, I want to congratulate the Red Team, for what I considered to be an accomplishment of MAJOR proportions, for the near and far future. I’m totally flabbergasted by what I seen!

This camera has actually become truly modular. For the Red Epic Master Professional, and the scarlet Professional to have interchangeable modules, interchangeable resolutions, and to be able to work them in any configuration, past, present and future is truly without precedence.
“Obsolesce Obsolete” has become a reality for the first time in Motion Pictures, just pull out the brain and replace it, configure it to any shooting requirement, and not be ashamed of the results. Shoot background plates in 9K and shoot the foreground in 6K, so you can compensate for camera moves and zooming in and out at 5K, and then print to film in 4K is a totally beyond comprehension.

My hat is off to all you guys in the Red Team! And a special thanks to Jim for having a vision that went out further than anything that I could possibly imagined!

How about a PDF file?

RED team, you are all nuts!
186 x 56 mm 261 MP REDCODE 500

Congrats on the modular design without any cable hassle!
A stroke of genius!

Way to go!
