  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I CANT FUCKING THINK!!!!!

I WANT A 9K EPIC and a 6K SCARLET NOW!!!!!!

another 28k.. and another 12k... fucken cheap.. real fucken cheap...

I'm not sure that makes sense. I mean, if that's the case then they'd probably charge the difference of a new Epic, otherwise everyone would just take the upgrade rather than the trade in. And if it's the same cost (way too much for me) then why would anyone do that rather than trade in?

Yea, I haven't given it much though at all to be honest.. I don't have a R1. But either way, I am happy to see that you guys will not only be taken care of but also will be treated with all the respect that you earned when buying front row tickets to the Red show.

:sarcasm:

Pretty incredible announcements. the PL mount situation is interesting and I look forward to hearing more about this. My main concern right now is how much all these accessories are going to cost. Until then, estimating a realistic price for the camera, especially at the low end, is out of the question.

But honestly... i respect RED for giving us the chance to take our cameras back.. thats the fucken shit right there.

Every camera company in the world should be kicking themselves. Congratualations Jim and the team - this is going to have the biggest impact on cinema and tv production since colour!

Forget about resolution. I finish at 2K which goes out to film. But I want the 13+ stops of Monstro. BUT if I used the FF35, I have to use the Red f2.8 lenses. Wouldn't I be better off sticking with S35 and Mysterium X and using f1.9 lenses? Can somebody tell me I'm wrong, and that having all that dynamic range with a slower zoom lens would somehow be better.

I've loved Red from day one, and shot a feature on Red - I just can't sleep without knowing what to order next...

Jim says he has our back and I believe him, I'll just hope this upgrade program is as exciting as the rest of the news.

Akube might be right, though. Looking at Scarlet's specs, it looks like it will be hard to sell a used RED ONE for more than $5,000 six months from now.

I'm totaly speechless. This is crazy Jim. This is better than the moonlanding.
This realy changes everything. I'm totaly stoked.
Give me a few days to recover man.

If you realy bring out the goods as shown and more or less on time - the whole industry will change for ever.

I cant believe it.

Double cheers
Tim

I think my brain is going explode...
I need time... (inhale).... (exhale) ...

All that I'm able to say now is:
I'm SPEECHLESS !
Jim and Team, you truly are great...

(further comment coming when I have the the capacity for it )

I couldn't breathe either!

Wait, just realized it doesn't take mini DV tapes! Now I don't want one anymore.

Oh Jim, I'm going to give you my first born. Hope you like an Asian baby.

Seriously unbelievable stuff! I feel bad for the other companies. They cannot compete at those prices/specs.

I'm thinking the same Ken.
i'd like to get Epic FF35 - 13+ stops/rc225/FF35 (focus will be fun!)

But NO PL mount...pain!! I'm sure someone can tell me why...i.e larger sensor/focal length...etc.

D

PL mount wont cover a full frame 35mm sensor. However, I imagine you could still swap for the PL mount and shoot in S35 windowed mode, might even get a frame rate boost.

Then you'd get your 13 stops, although you'd take a resolution hit.

EDIT: what steve said

I'm absolutely speechless, for me it's going to be a long wait until Summer 2009 til I get my hands on a SCARLET system.

Thank you so much Red, the days of indie filmmakers having to trick consumer video cameras into giving us what we want are coming to an end :D

Shall rent some brains from you soon! Rented 'Elvis' not too long ago while in NY, felt like I was shooting with a piece of future cinematic history :)

It's going to be very hard to let him go for the upgrade ... but ELVIS lives forever ... so ... we will channel his energy into EPIC ELVIS!

I assume based on the flyer Jim posted:

1. Due to the much smaller formfactor we will have hardware code/decode of RedCode

2. Thus much faster booting times

3. 16 Bit AD will allow for a much higher DR, making the FF crop of RedBrains the annouced Filmkiller (techically)

4. Cropping the 6K Sensor to 5K of the Epic FF will allow for full S35 4:3 100+ fps recording.

5. The new Redcode 225 will deliver a fidelity that is very, very close to uncompressed,
matching the highest needs.

6. I feel very sorry for Arri and mean this honestly.

Hans
