  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My source within Sony just informed me that Sony is afraid they're out of the business of pro-video cameras as of 2010. Next year they're going to sell off all they're prosumer and professional video/cinema cameras at 90% off, can't wait to own 10 EX1s for the price of one S35 Scarlet Brain!!! They'll be good cameras to have, showing me from all angles as I use my pimped Scarlet!!!

What's amazing is... I'm alive to see this stuff that will be talked about for generations to come!

I don't think anything should end film, per say... but these are the coolest most sensible specs and designs for a camera system that I have seen. Its a tool you use to achieve a desired effect. If you love film, stick with it. If you can learn digital... the results will be extremely rewarding.

I will certainly be cradling a Scarlet as soon as I possibly can.

Call me crazy but...

Call me crazy but...

The specs at first glance seem unbelievable, but what I don't like is that the frame rates outside of the 2/3" model are only 30fps and the stills are rather light in the Mega Pixel department. So I don't see it as a SLR replacement.

Also is it really necessary to go beyond 4k? How in the hell is anyone going to afford the hardware to store files so large? I don't know what film res is before it goes to post, but from what I understand when it goes to post and is distributed it is in 2k and it looks amazing and is still the best in image quality out there, unless these cameras can promise what they advertise. Even the Genesis which makes some beautiful images is under 2k so why do we need all of this res?

I don't think it is practical to work with files so large, considering Hollywood doesn't work with files so large and the vast majority of people on this site probably couldn't afford archiving 3k images.

Uber resolution does not make great images, only great cameramen make great resolution.

That being said it is impressive that they are offering such specs at such a low price.

What I really like is that I can buy a S35 Scarlett/PL setup and use it for the majority of my work, personal stuff, etc.. and then when the budget calls for it, just rent an epic/monstro brain :) That's brilliant!

Looking forward to a PDF of the brochure to avoid the need to zoom on the that HUGE jpeg. ;)

Ambitious.

That's an awful lot of product lines.

I am wondering if Scarlet 2/3 can have Nikon lens mount, in specific there is mini-Red, B4 and C-mount. Also Scarlet S35 have max 30fps, but Red One in specification has also max 30fps but you can go higher whit wondowed mode - I am wondering if this will be possible on Scarlet S35.

I'm speechless. Thank god i can still type. Future Scarlet-2/3"-with-mount owner reports for waiting duty.

Jim Jim Jim...

You just had to go and make a digital version of your Fuji 617, didn't you? Linhof / Alpa mounts? Really? Re-purposing all the cool toys in the camera closet...I like it. Very drool-worthy.

How many years out is the RED 2000mm f5.6 lens? Why that big? Well one, gotta go longer than your 1200, and two, just because.
