  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet is a Professional "brain". EPIC is a Master Professional "brain".

So what's a Red One?

I bet it's less than that for just a body and no lens. The original Scarlet was $3,000 and that included a lens that we were told was going to kick ass. If a $3,000 Scarlet costs $12,000 to be useable, then Sony, Canon and the rest don't have that much to worry about.

Not true at all. Although I didn't say 12k to be useable. My wager still stands at 7K for a decent working package. I'll be happy to be wrong, though, and it comes in under that.

12K is everything, down to the Branded Pelican Cases. : D I like Lemonade.

Jim, Graeme, Jarred, Deanan, Stuart and all Red ,

from the pictures Jim has posted it's looking like you guys have gone to a different levels in design, expertise.

Absolutely tremendous work!!!

Dave,

Just got back from a 9 month deployment in Iraq in charge of 22 Combat Cameramen. Our specific mission is to document the war and we are dual trained in both video and photo but lugging 2 cameras around is a pain. The Scarlet solves all of our problems! :)

Very cool! And besides the dual purpose of video/photography, it appears Scarlet can be loaded with .50 caliber bullets as well as a grenade launcher.

Yep. Yep. I cannot live without a shoulder config, and there it is. RED, how did you take all the absurd comments and our desires and somehow seem to make everything possible?

Unless they added many pounds to whatever new battery this pic shows it would be super front heavy. But at least they're showing the red batts now instead of proprietary so that's a start. Even with a prime though this seems like it would be really front heavy, let alone the zoom they're showing.

Interesting that they got the handles near the mattebox which is something we usually have to rig somehow. Big plus!

That's exactly why Sony and Panasonic and the rest aren't going anywhere. We'll be lucky if the Scarlet brain comes in anywhere NEAR 3k. I'm fully prepared to drop 12K for a working package.

But, if it's being marketed as a DSMC you may get lucky and see it roll in at about 3,499.99 for the body and no lens. The 5D MKII is about 2,799.99 MSRP. I think it's fair to think that the price of the body can't go up much higher than that.

We'll see.

yeah i agree Kholi i know you had some problems with your 170 from dvxuser, i got mine the day of release and been happy...well content with it for now. but in the end roughly 6k w/warranty and shipping it does the job well. i just hope that this does roughly the same and doesn't end up being over priced due to proprietary or additional equipment. Id like something useful right off, if i feel like raping Indiana Jones in a few years then id buy the equipment to do. Southpark reference sorry haha.

Modularity looks FANTASTIC ... lens mount flexibility is GREAT.
Well done to all at RED

Fingers crossed on good news on workflow too ...

EDIT : WOW ... the 'Testing .. testing' has LOTS MORE NOW !!! ...
