12500 $ Fraud in Reduser

Is it possible to have a star system like on ebay on Reduser? I have done great purchases over reduser, but I have to say that i have looked away from good opportunities due to the lack of knowledge on the seller. An escrow service with a 10% fee would be great and a good income to the forum.

So far my history has been 100% good. Only once a reduser friend was a bit late with shipping, it made me nervous, but it was all good at the end.

Still to this day we did not get a name. Are you trying to "watch out" for us redusers or are you using this thread as leveraged to warn the seller into giving you your money back? I'm about to make some big purchases and i would like to have the name of the seller. You start a thread to warn people then please WARN us.

I hate to admit, but I've been cheated out of money from a senior member of this community claiming "hard times." It wasn't a large enough amount of money to file legal action, so I just moved on. My lesson learned was do your research on each person you're dealing with, trust no one, esp. with large transactions - get references, look at their work/website, call them beforehand, call their clients...whatever you can do. Wishing all the honest folks out there the best.

HI!
Give use the name, if you want us to watch out! This tread is useless otherwise.

Dear Friends
Thanks for all the moral support , am in the process of taking legal action so cannot ruin the name of "Senior Member "

I have dealt with great professionals and genuine people in this community learned lot of new things . I will fight against the senior member until my hard earned money is recovered , I will keep you all posted and share my experience to stop any further FRAUD

It hurts me a lot that people do not keep trust , please share my experience and be careful when you deal with $$$$$

Charan

Charan i suggest you shame this guy like i did with Sergey (No im not going to start another war). Senior member doesn't mean a thing, and you being in India and the seller is probably in another country... Well ... I don't like you chances personally unless you paid via paypal.

If you name the guy here you might have more luck that someone knows him personally and you will probably have more chance of getting your money back.

For anyone unaware, 'senior member' is an automatic status you get after I think 100 posts. There are certain members on here with a few hundred posts whom I would send money without hesitation, and others with over 1000 that I would still investigate thoroughly.

Personally I think the 'senior member' badge should be turned off or set much higher, like above 1500.

Recently I had a 'senior' member commit to buy a piece of gear. I held it for several days for them solely on the basis of their posting history here, they never followed through and I lost out on several other opportunities from other interested folks. No gear or money was lost, thankfully, but it's still a bogus move. Who knows if this move has been pulled on other people and future folks could benefit from that knowledge.

Isn't there a built in, or pre-baked reputation module for this forum software that could be added easily? I feel like I've seen it elsewhere. I personally don't have a ton of posts but I've done quite a bit of successful transactions with other members that isn't reflected in any sort of post history.

Some folks here probably have a good post history but don't play well with others when it comes to buying and selling.

That's a lot of "flipping" money to get scammed over.. Sorry for your unfortunate experience.

Those sorts of systems inevitably fail. Ebay accounts with good records get hacked all the time. Also reputable businesses can run out of cash (see giant thread in Offtopic about all the lawsuits against a certain well known red vendor). Lastly if you intend to defraud you can make it legit pretty quickly by just buying and selling cables and small items and then you do one Cine Zoom and you're set.

Just follow the normal rules:
1) Large purchases are worth the face time. Make a phone call if you can't meet in person. "Trust but verify"
2) Ask them to photograph the item with today's date or something specific like "Hey take a picture with a wine glass." Then they can't use someone's photo they found on flickr.
3) Never ever ever ever deal in cash or direct transfers. Credit cards are fine (Get them to sign up for square and pay them the 2.5% charge fee), PayPal is great, Escrow services are pretty abundant use them. But never use western union, cash, check or anything else that can't be 'clawed back' or held by a third party before completion of the deal.

That being said, it's incredibly easy to scam people. Even paypal can be abused. The world sucks and even following the general rules of decency don't always work out.

One other thing to be aware of is..."the item won't be available until..." or non receipt of object and then refund of money 10 days later.
Basically, this scam is to create cash flow. When small businesses dry up for temporary periods, they put a non existant item up for sale and refund later. The buyer thinks they are honest and thus there aren't any feedback issues, but they have unwillingly bankrolled an entreprise.
Look at buyers feedback on ebay for instance to note refunds on large ticket items.

Charanreddy I hope it gets sorted and the best of luck....

So is there any mileage in a list of people who you've done business with and can, in a sense, vouch for?

regards

simon

I think there should be a list of fraudsters ,people who have cheated other fellow Red users should be listed down with a brief note of what/when/how much.

That would help unsuspecting fellow users to fall in traps.I know of a repeated offender who has cheated multiple red users.Mr Torrey of silverado systems.A thread can be dedicated to them.

I'm calling BULLSHIT on this one.

If you really want to be helpful to our community to type "FULL NAME" into "Senior Member" name protection blank. If someone is scamming on RU we deserve to know who it is. PERIOD. If you are being bullied, we can take care of that too and have in the past. This is our market and we watch out for each other.

Six months?!?! Are you kidding me? You must not value your 12,500 dollars. Use your community to force the issue, make it public, get results. Reputation is everything in this business.

how does everyone else feel about starting a Trusted Sellers List? As a newbie Red owner I agree with Daniel that I look up to and cherish the attention and time RedUsers take to help me and I attempt to help others...

simon...we offered something similar on this thread...

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?96549-Houston-Pre-Sale-verification-services

What is interesting is that our Houston office received an email about a month ago --- had faint indications it could be a Nigerian uncle-type situation...

There was a live person on the other end of the phone AND they emailed a copy of the Canadian passport.

Luckily, one of our Calgary partners had a brother in Vancouver...Drove over to check out an address they provided --- didn't quite make out.

Spoke to the US banker on wire transfer processes....Told the lady we needed a Canadian Driver's license AND a SIN to match the passport as part of the "know your customer" laws in both countries...

Haven't heard back...

BTW...the Canadian passport was a good knock off --- only three items that didn't match....

Turned everything over to US Custom's....guy said he got 5 calls this week alone...
