12500 $ Fraud in Reduser

I'm calling BULLSHIT on this one.

If you really want to be helpful to our community to type "FULL NAME" into "Senior Member" name protection blank. If someone is scamming on RU we deserve to know who it is. PERIOD. If you are being bullied, we can take care of that too and have in the past. This is our market and we watch out for each other.

Six months?!?! Are you kidding me? You must not value your 12,500 dollars. Use your community to force the issue, make it public, get results. Reputation is everything in this business.

Dear Friends
Thanks for all the moral support , am in the process of taking legal action so cannot ruin the name of "Senior Member "

I have dealt with great professionals and genuine people in this community learned lot of new things . I will fight against the senior member until my hard earned money is recovered , I will keep you all posted and share my experience to stop any further FRAUD

It hurts me a lot that people do not keep trust , please share my experience and be careful when you deal with $$$$$

Charan

If you intend to pursue in US courts, it's going to be public record when you file...Not sure the "cannot ruin" language you are using...If you are litigating a case in a foreign country against a US citizen, you'll most likely be going through a process called "domesticating a foreign judgement" ....good luck making the ROI work out on that one --- the economics of litigation don't appear to be lining up for you on this one based on what you are disclosing on this thread.

Curious thread for sure....

Simon has a great idea. It is easy to have a trusted reference list of fellow RUsers with a successful stint of transactions. I can vouch for several great guys for deals ranging from 50$ to 35000$!!! One can identify a scamster only when one is scammed and we don't want that ever to happen to anyone. Simon...plz start off a thread and I will start adding up names.

What???? 6 month waiting?

Funny enough, I have a sales thread that got sort of derailed by a similar topic.
I'm selling my F3 and specified no paypal, bank check only, face to face is best, I'll buy you a coffee and let you test the camera.
There were a couple of fellow redusers who thought my terms were excessively conservative, and gave me some flack.
But I will say it again. Unless both buyer and seller are WELL KNOWN and TRUSTED, and thoroughly vetted (not just reduser status) then face to face is best.
Spending $12,000 on a lens? Buy a plane ticket and book a hotel room. Go see the buyer. Get the lens in you hand. Test it. Feel OK? Spidey senses going off? Check the serial number with the manufacturer. Is it stolen?
Snap a photo of the seller. Snap a photo of the buyer. Make it a cashier's check, at the bank, that the teller can verify or make in front of you. Or cash, if you are comfortable carrying it.
Shake hands. Last check for buyer and seller. Both feel good?
If it's a $200 battery, or an old Marshall monitor, or a filter, then sure. eBay it. Paypal it. Scammed? Oh well, $200 lost. Have a laugh. Move on. But $12,000? That's real money where I come from.
Cheers,
Harry

Great advice right thurr.

I hate to admit, but I've been cheated out of money from a senior member of this community claiming "hard times." It wasn't a large enough amount of money to file legal action, so I just moved on. My lesson learned was do your research on each person you're dealing with, trust no one, esp. with large transactions - get references, look at their work/website, call them beforehand, call their clients...whatever you can do. Wishing all the honest folks out there the best.

I'd like to know who this was. Sounds very familiar, though I lost less then 50$.

I think the golden rule is NEVER, NEVER do wire transfers unless you know the people your dealing with. Know them seriously well. We should have a black list that someone moderates.

A simple feedback system like other sites have should suffice.

That way you can just look next to the user information and see if they have enough positive feedback to make everyone feel comfortable.

Chan, if you don't even PM us the name, there is no way we can help you, and there is very little this thread does for the community.

Martin...if he doesn't get back with you...you have my vote to toast this thread...it's a waste of energy without the disclosure

I am definitely looking for some sort of feedback system.
Few months back I was supposedly scammed by a reduser. I offered to pay $2000 as advance to block the deal and wanted to fly down from India to Texas (~9,000 miles and $2000 ticket).
But he wanted FULL 24K payment before I even think of looking at his EPIC system..
He wanted to convince me showing his ebay 750+ feedback(where he sold lens caps, few penny items etc and of course one 5D).
I sent my bank balance screenshot to him. He said, he gave the offer to 4 prospective buyers and whoever makes the payment first, based on the time stamp, he wud handover the camera to that buyer (what happens to the rest..?, I dont know--- Nice plot)
He gave me a camera number first and after few minutes sent another camera number and when cross checked with RED, records not matching , then he gave me different name/company, not matching either. I asked for more information, for which he was annoyed and started accusing me of asking too much info and wasting his time.
So I troubled a friend of another friend in Texas. The friend willing to drive 70miles for my sake and seller promised to meet in the evening and later in the evening, seller stopped answering calls from my friend.

I complained to Moderators and posted on his own FS thread, Surprisingly within minutes he marked the thread as SOLD.(check my posts to find out who he is)
He still lurks around this forum, probably looking for possible prey..

Better late than never. a simple warning/feedback systems could help somebody falling in those traps.

Please at the least send the names to the MODS who can do the right thing, and possibly help take it further depending on how deep the issues lay... It's problematic to just warn folks in this community of a threat from someone you deem credible. Write a moderator and things will get better for everyone.

Siva, we would have checked this guy out for you...That's the same thing on our Canadian deal...The minute they think you are "close" everything goes radio silent. Also note google street view is getting really awesome in both countries. Sometimes it's easy to tell if they are "established" the way google is integrating the "business" listings with the GIS info.

Recently I had a 'senior' member commit to buy a piece of gear. I held it for several days for them solely on the basis of their posting history here, they never followed through and I lost out on several other opportunities from other interested folks. No gear or money was lost, thankfully, but it's still a bogus move. Who knows if this move has been pulled on other people and future folks could benefit from that knowledge.

Isn't there a built in, or pre-baked reputation module for this forum software that could be added easily? I feel like I've seen it elsewhere. I personally don't have a ton of posts but I've done quite a bit of successful transactions with other members that isn't reflected in any sort of post history.

Some folks here probably have a good post history but don't play well with others when it comes to buying and selling.

Well, that happens, and it happened to me, but that is most likely just somebody, having too much red wine, overextending their economy. Not good form, but a far cry from scamming...

I have bought & sold hundreds of items on the world wide web, including many expensive items on reduser. Thus far I have never been cheated, using common sense and simple wire transfers...If its over $2000, I just ask the seller simple questions, that will reveal if they have the product or not and if they know what they are talking about. As a seller I check out the company in question. For larger amounts I demand a skype session and I do as much investigation as possible. I rely on my instinct, combined with the facts gathered and my people skills. I have walked away from a few deals over the years, but they all smelled fishy from the beginning. I guess I am quite naive, but I only buy or sell to other pros, or serious amateurs. I still prefer wiretransfer over PP, because I find it too expensive and cumbersome for larger amounts. I may have to change my behaviour, but this far my dealings on the internet have been all good. That said, I think it is a good ideer to have some form of sales validation on reduser, but what would be the criteria? Its much simpler just to go through someones posts and asses, if they are genuine. AND to use Paypal is the safest way!

Why even bring it up if you're not going to tell... I'd be furious if someone burned me and I would let the planet know who it was.. Kind of selfish don't you think. Because if you got scammed im sure there are others....
