  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

120 fps scarlet any word?

For a company that is all about super high resolution (among other things) I fail to see the logic in adding 120fps @ 1k to the Scarlet-X at all.
Let's not make a 3k camera because its not high enough resolution. Instead lets make a 4k camera and add a SUB HD option. :emote_whack:

Don't get me wrong, I like RED but, Whats the point?

Because some people would like the option regardless of people like you that don't have a need for it?

I'll take it at 4K, make it happen..... Crickets......

I agree Tim in regards to 1K 120, it does make little sense. What makes far more sense is to see if they can work some magic and get 120 to 2K. 120fps 2K raw, even widowed, will very competitively place Scarlet in the high speed stakes.

Also, if I was RED I wouldn't particularly want a whole load of 1K Scarlet footage hitting the net to be scoffed at. Levels of misinformation out there are already bad enough, last night reading a prominent blog with the standard comments following, that purport a working Scarlet package is at least 22K with 27 being more realistic. 27K? For a working package? I have four SSD's, Side handle, Redmote and Touch, a Vmount solution, Redvolts for 18K (after shipping and taxes) and you can obviously do with less. Sick of the BS. It's so "hip" to play boy scout and "warn" people of the dollar dangers of the red eco system, while having no compunction in grossly inflating RED workflow issues and making cost exaggerations - while usually defending the value of the C300 or other 1080p camera. What's more is with things like the 32GB SSD, RED shows they actually care and listen and are trying to find ways to make their system cheaper. A concept Canon seems to have little regard for. Boy did BMD just tear them a new one or what. RED don't squeeze money from you, they inspire you to THROW your money at them. It HURTS! But it's an infinitely more likeable way to make a buck.

Sorry, rant over, back on topic.

I'm thinking now that the future for many Epic owners will be Drago,n and so with a whole new specs ballpark, that giving 120fps at 2k is not a very important camera differential anymore - if it was being considered as such. From what RED has said, I don't think the first Scarlet users will see a Dragon sensor for at least a good year... So using a distant paid sensor upgrade as the way to deliver on the advertised 120 specs, seem highly unlikely to me. RED are anything but stupid and like to reward their customers. Which is why I think there is some genuine reason we can dare to hope for 120 @ 2k.

I agree with the 1k notion, if I were of any power at RED, I would not want any 1k floating around unless it was perfect. I get it! I'm thinking its about time though, no? Am I on the soap box, sniffing my fumes?

Indeed. I think 120@2K should be very possible, since the amount of data from 120fps@2K is the same as 30fps@4K which the Scarlet currently does.

Yes as Jarred mentioned it today.

Yes. In 2 weeks we are releasing a pretty monumental build for Scarlet and Epic... Apart from a bunch of other goodies, additional resolutions will appear... including the high frame rate 1K on scarlet.

OH MAN, Jarred answers the question, but even more crop up: additional resolutions? why did he say "high framerate" and not "120fps"??

Maybe I'm looking into it too much or being too optimistic, but 1.5k (720p) at 120fps? 1k at 200fps?

Anything below 2K is no good to me. 1K has always seemed an oddity in the RED eco system to me, so i'm crossing fingers but not holding my breath. I think 25p HDR and 50p in 3k will be quite likely. Is exciting though. This is RED "Everything changes" Come on 120 @ 2k!! That I could really use.

next build, its' a big one... couple of weeks away (see jarred via 'questions' thread)

It is not about DATA RATE it is about sensor readout pipeline. To be honest - don't really think it is possible with existing logic board, it is not that easy. But it is still a chance it is going to happen :)

LOL...
Tat's like saying:
It's not about datarate, but datarate... :)
