  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1080p monitoring in Build 16?

Impressive that Red has managed to do what for so long seemed impossible. I'm curious how people will use the new 1080p SDI out, since it works in playback only, not live. That seems unique among the cameras I know about, so I'm guessing working procedures might have to change from what people are used to.

Just curious: Playback only or Playback and Preview--just not when recording?

Certainly it would be great if it could work in preview as well, and revert to 720p when recording--of course we have to ask for the world!!!

Two basic questions:

- What's the LCD/viewfinder doing when the 1080p output is playing back? Is it getting 720p or switched off? Not a complaint, just curious.

- Will the magnify function work during 1080p playback? Or is too much to ask for (double scaling)? This would be very nice for checking for critical focus.

Again, no complaints, just curious about functions.

Is the 1080P output clean, i.e. no data information? If so, is it clean enough that you could playback from the camera and capture into Kona 3 at 4:4:4? I'm trying to explore all my options for projects that need quick turnaround 1080. Right now, the quickest way is to use the proxies and deal with it being a lower quality result.

Yeah! The SATA controller on my motherboard will work once I upgrade to the latest (upcoming) firmware! At least now I can tell my clients, "those connectors work, but only in playback. Now go back to the craft-services table and eat your shrimp cocktail. I'll call you when we've finished this setup and are ready to review."

We offer both 1080p 4:2:2 and RGB video outputs on playback of REDCODE RAW recordings.

The EVF and LCD will show the central 1280 x 720 pixels out of the 1920 x 1080 frame.

The HDMI will follow PREVIEW HD-SDI, so that would be 10 bit 4:2:2 1080p

HD-SDI interface already verified with Panasonic, JVC and Cine-tal monitors

Playback, not preview, nor record.

This is insanely great news because it will allow smaller operations (like my own) to extract to 1080p ProResHQ in realtime through something like the AJA IO HD. I'm thrilled!

Tony, depends on how clean this feed is. I'm very excited if it's clean enough to pull broadcast quality 1080 into my Kona 3.
