I'm just going to throw this one out there...I ran it by a couple other RED shooters and they couldn't confirm.

Using the 1:1 Focus on the 5" touch screen (aka 1:1 zoom) can you choose what part of the image you are viewing. The Canon 5D's have a similar focus assist tool where you can zoom in then use to wheel to scroll around the image.

On the RED when you are in 1:1 Focus the rectangle appears on the screen with a red square showing what area you're focused on. Is there any way move around to different parts of the screen...can you move that red square around?

Yes. You can move it around by pressing and holding the area you'd like to focus on.

Also, if you are a DSMC Sidehandle user if you press "down" on the directional pad your directional controls will allow you to move it left, right, down, or up.

You cannot move it while zoomed in.

This has been available for some time now and was one of my personal most requested features, glad the implemented it.

Yes, touching the sopt you want to 1:1 on the touchscreen. (But you have to be in focus confirm mode I think...?)

Pat

Sorry Phil, you were faster... ;-)

Amazing. Didn't know they had implemented this! Wonder which firmware it appeared in.

Trent posted a bit ago, 4.0.10.

If you're curious I map "Cycle Focus Modes" to my DSMC Side Handle to enable the Red Magnify Targeting Box and get rid of it when I don't need it.

Thanks Phil! It rings a bell now, but I obviously forgot.

Sorry for the delay on my reply... But I knew you guys would have an inside track on this. Bravo!

I notice that if you try to magnify a region that's fairly central, it zooms in with the selected area central as you would expect.

However, if you try to select an area at the edge of frame, it zooms in on an area in that general direction, but doesn't seem to be able to centre the selected area.

Is that normal?

yes, this is the expected behavior. There are limitations on how close to the edge we can show the 1:1 region. Note that on monitors with a higher resolution (like 1080p on HDMI/HDSDI) we can get closer to the edge.

Thanks Trent!

how do i remove the red selection rectangle from the display?

what I want to know is why we can't record at 1:1 zoom, or ideally at a user defined range between normal - 100%?

On a related (?) subject, if the ProIO module does its own debayer, why cannot the Brain debayer at one zoom level (for example, full-screen monitoring) and the ProIO module debayer at another zoom level (for example, 1:1) so that by using two monitors, one can see both the whole image and a magnified focus image when recording.

Michael, 1:1 RECORDING MODE is something I've been asking for a while. Nobody can tell me if it's a technical limitation or a just code that hasn't been written yet.

You can create a custom overlay that does not contain it.

Assuming you want to modify the default overlay on the LCD, "Standard (RED)", follow these steps:

1. Open the dialog: Menu > Settings > Display > Monitor Control
2. Go to the "Overlay" tab
3. Select "Standard (RED)" (or the overlay of your choice)
4. Press the "Clone..." button
5. In the editor you will see a grid of overlay elements. Press the "MI" button (for Magnify Indicator).
6. Press the "Remove" button
7. Confirm that the "MI" element has been removed on the grid display
8. Give the new preset a name, e.g. "My Overlay"
9. Press the "Create" button
10. Go to the "Monitor" tab
11. Select the monitor you want to put this new overlay on, e.g. "BRAIN LCD"
12. Select your new overlay, "My Overlay", for the "Overlay" setting
13. Repeat steps 11-12 for all monitors that you want to reassign
14. Close the dialog
