  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet at CES

That is one SEXY Camera.

Gimmie fixed lens footage.

I think the body looks awesome, but the tiny primes look a little weird on it. Put a lens as big as the fixed one and it looks totally awesome.

Agree Stephen, but also take consideration that when used for S3D set ups, especially so in Parallax set ups, you ideally want the lens no bigger then the body, as to be able to get a closer Interocular distance, at time necessary to be even smaller then 2.5in.

Sorry, but it really looks ugly. It also looks to be at least 4 feet tall! LOL! It is basically a black box with a lens. Definitely doesn't look like the sleek designed camera a lot of people where waiting for. Forget about traditional camera looking, this version looks not pretty at all.I am sure this won't be the final design.

I like it. The design has a very professional feel to it. As far as this not being the final design, I don't see red changing the Epic/Scarlet body this late in the game for the sole purpose of "makin it look purty". It's a camera, not a work of art... Although in my opinion, It's close.

its ugly .. at angles it looks like a Mag Light jammed into a box..

but it has very sexy features

and something from the future

i would have to imagine is some kind of headset with a mic and you tell it what to do while you look through a small piece of glass like a rear view on a bicycle helmet and it records what your mind sees

that will be bad ass .. but this will do LOL

OK kids, settle down. This is the same design you've all been drooling over for months now. You are looking at a series of photos taken with an extremely wide-angle lens, with it's extreme wide-angle distortion. You should know that, you're all supposed to be cinematographers.

Ugly or beautiful the fact is that this is just an empty shell. When are we going to see the complete package? CES 2011? 2012? That is the real question.

she's ugly but as long as she produces stunning images I don't really care.

Yeah, some cameras that turned out to be amazingly useful looked like they'd been hit with the ugly stick daily during their design process. The Eclair NPR is a good example. Run-from-the-building-screaming ugly, but turned out to be amazingly useful.

I think the thing that hits people about the Scarlet is that it's kinda tarted-up like it thinks it's a knockout and that kinda makes its boxy profile more apparent. Like a really masculine woman wearing a Ferretti cocktail dress. You just want to wrap her in a blanket and send her away in a taxi.

A clear case of beauty being in the eye of the beholder... I can not wait to get my hands on this thing. All it needs is a foldaway bottom handle and it would be the ultimate modern take on a 8mm camera design aesthetic.

Although i don't want to work in this manner, i completely know what you mean. I was thinking about this time ago, seeing striped down scarlets looking in people hands as super 8mm cameras.

Btw, people who thinks that the existing design isn't "good enough", maybe should buy few more modules to make their scarlets look rectangular instead of boxy.. hope that helps

Please note that I said "I like what is inside".... the look will NOT put me off buying one.

I am a designer by trade, so know that you cannot please everyone. Even Apple products (the masters of design, in my opinion) are still disliked by some.

I do wish it was a little more round edged though... with the sort of grip material you would find on a DSLR.... probably becuase I come from a photography background.

I just hope that the beast captures the beauty.
