  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ISO 4000...

Thanks for that. Do you have a color temp meter?

Crumb. I don't. I don't have enough gear with me right now to even do a "proper" rough test via DSLR. Will see what I can do though.. bet you a candy cane that it's pretty high Kelvin compared to tungsten home lighting. (it looks bluer to the eye..)

EDIT: I added my rough findings(text-only) on the color temp of my iPhone in my original post.

pretty amazing stuff your working on. I sure would love to see some new color work in Adobe products, this old stuff is really starting to look kinda bad. using my Canon 5d more and more and I am noticing that it looks better then my red color wise unless I really grade the red in a proper program.. :(

Everyone will get the new color science via SDK pretty soon. The improvements are for both M and M-X sensors.

Brook... please repost on the thread at "Other Cameras". This section is about RED and RED news/announcements. We have a space for comparisons and anything else you want to talk about concerning DSLRs. Just not here.

Thanks.

Jim, do you think it's safe to say that I can shoot at ISO 1600 on Epic X for a 4K finish safely? Less? More? Obviously ISO 800 appears to be in the bag.

My mistake Jim, took your "Give it a try" literally.

I've made the post here. :)

Graeme's secrets are safe with us... :-)

Jim

Ah I see... ;}

It will be exciting to see how the 2/3 imager stacks up with the t/1.5 primes...
As I see it the DOF of the 2/3 brain at f/1.4 fully open in low light will make it my dream camera.
:wink5:

Outstanding gentlemen! Great work. I feel lucky to live in such times as man has walked on the moon and Red Digital Cinema is awake while I sleep.

I've made a new thread with my post here. :)

Brook... nothing personal. I did the same thing to someone else on the ISO, ISO thread.

It looks like we do pretty well now against the competition at high ISO. Our true advantages go beyond that... we hope. Our goal was to take High ISO out of the discussion so other things could be focused on... like RAW, high frame rate RAW, etc.

Just can't help but wonder how Kubrick would have loved to have had such clean footage for his low light work on Barry Lyndon or Eyes Wide Shut.

Those weren't clean?

Those stand as amazing accomplishments in cinema...they never felt compromised to me at all...

It was the best at the moment.

They were not clean, however, they did indeed look rather wonderful. I personally add a small amount of film like grain to clean images.

Agreed.

Still some of my favourite images too.

I think that that Soderbergh would be keen on this sensor.

Don't worry, no offense taken in the least.

Your other major benefit? It's a damn cinema camera that will work like a cinema camera. No bolting stuff to stuff to an adapter to stuff to some velcro to stuff to make a camera package. Like this.

wow. that's just gorgeous. please take my money and give me one of those!

somewhat tangentially, any news on Monstro? i think I have Scarlet FF35 fever!

RAND

RAND

We used Graeme's new test app (RAND) with our new color space (REDcolor), our new gamma (REDgamma) and a touch of Graeme's new secret NR sauce (very mild)... like milk chocolate.

Jim

Out of curiosity, Graeme, what does RAND stand for?

and a touch of Graeme's new secret NR sauce (very mild)... like milk chocolate.

Jim

I like secret sauce!

Does anyone know if we would see the same kind of low light capabilities on the 2/3" Red sensors? My thinking is -- smaller sensor surface area, less photons hitting the sensor.

Research ANd Development.

Remember REDAlert! started life as my little R&D app... When RA! became a RED public app, I needed another little private app to do image processing development in. So that's where FLUT was born and raised, and now it's leaving home to go out into the world.
