There will be a discount on accessory packages? Like the RED One Base Production Pack?? :)

Do you guys think this RED Station would be a good thing to have on set? Is it like a dump station for the flash cards?

Maybe when we find out exactly what it is, we can tell you... :driving:

It's buried in this thread, but Jarred explained it.

RED STATION is a base unit that connects via eSATA, FW800 or USB (for now, other interfaces as they become available). You can connect up to 4 media interface modules to it. So it is for offloading or interfacing to RED media. As an example, you can connect it via SATA and have two CF reader modules as well as a reader for 1.8" SSD mags and one for 2.5" SSD mags.

The renders don't look like the reader modules are the same as the camera modules... Would be nice though if they were: you could just swap the parts between cameras and stations (only makes sense when you have a big pile of these Red Lego parts for multiple camera packages and stuff). Talk about modularity! (Of course it's terrific already that you can upgrade individual parts, upgradiing your offloading station without having to buy a completely new deck once new stuff comes out.)

(Never gotten around to replying to the annoucement actually. Not much left to be said really, this stuff is all SO amazing! If it weren't for the fact that I've no ample budget so far, I'd be a Red owner ever since the One came out two years back! Gotta love this company and its products...)

Tim

EDIT: hmm.... Jarred statement says it has the same backbone as the camera system.... Maybe the modules are the same after all??

Red Handle...

Red Handle...

Question....

Are the modules shown here attached the Tattoo Brain the "Red Handle" as seen in the render of the Scarlet also shown below?

Thanks,

Jeff

That would be a bottomhandle (350$) and a sidehandle (950$); previously known as the Redhandle.
Sidehandle takes a battery and (cf?) media to operate the brain with minimal add-ons. Bottom handle looks to be an extra grip and some buttons (wouldn't expect more functionality if you look at the price).

Hi Jarred,

Is the project advanced enough to give us an idea of what it would look (work) like with old accessories ? particularly the "old" evf ?

I'm trying to figure how it would work with 19mm rods, old batteries, shoulder rig etc...

Thanks

Antoine

No room for CF in side handle...

Jim

What modules does the 2/3 inch fixed lens scarlet kit come with if you don't mind my asking? Or do I just need to wait until the 30th?

Whoops... my bad. I thought I'd remembered the CF integration from the initial announcement. Looked it up, but it's not there.

My apologies for spreading inaccurate information!

The info leaflet on the red.com homepage (scarlet link) does state recording to internal memory (recording module section). Is there any more info on that?

Tim

Have I completely missed this or have we not been told the focal length range of the 8x fixed scarlet lens?

John Sagud (from RED) have said this:

"Scarlet will offer the 35 mm still camera equivalence of a 28-224 mm zoom lens. (This would be described as an 18-144 mm on an S35 sized sensor, such as the RED One and 7.2-57.6 mm on a 2/3" sensor). There are also planned auxiliary wide and tele adaptors for this fixed lens."

Lets see if the 30th November announcement brings any changes...

I guess then, provided the Fixed lens Scarlet kit comes with a Red side handle... the only two necessary modules left would be viewfinder/LCD and a CF slot.

I wonder, is the point of the kit...
A. so that buyers don't have to worry about whether they have all the necessary modules to shoot.
B. So that Red can package a preset (non customizable) version of the Scarlet which would cut per-item Cost of Goods Sold and would hence allow them to reduce the selling price from what it would have been had the buyer simply requested all the separate pieces which come in the kit.

Or maybe its both A and B. :001_smile:

Sincerely,

Jeff
