  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon mount instructions?

Hy ibloom -

You can see me put a Nikon mount on a RED on Youtube. Just go there and do a search on RED CAMERA LENS MOUNT, and make sure you watch both episodes.

You have to either A) stuff the connector into the camera's recess sideways, and carefully stuff/shove the excess wiring around it, or B) carefully shave the sides of the connector off, then push it back into the connector not sideways but lengthwise, and push the excess wire back into the camera at the point that it emerges. I did A and haven' tried B but I think B is probably bettery because this technique allows you to index the Nikon mount to any of 8 positions, putting the witness mark where you like it.

Watching your video. Still don't understand how to accomodate the leads for the /i?

Or should I remove the entire mount to disconnect the leads from the body proper?

I am having similar concern, what kind of tool do I use on these the little screws inside the PL mount? My alens are not doing the job and I dont want to strip the screws. The screw has a star shaped looking head to it.

Thanks Jimhare...you know what size Torx? This seems correct though, from what it looks like it is a Torx...just a heads up to anyone with Nikon mount and RED, might want to supply the nikon mount with a Torx wrench and not Allen.

Ian,

You might want to just push it back into the body enough so that the connector sits in the grove.

Then flush mount the Nikon Mount.

They are not Torx screws, but rather Torx Plus screws. There is a difference.

This means you can not buy a standard T10 driver, you will need a IP10 (or TP10) driver.

The screws for the PL MOUNT are Torx Plus M3 x 18mm. The screws for the NIKON MOUNT are M3 x 10mm. Cameras are shipping now with Torx Plus in PL MOUNTS but we are awaiting the Torx Plus screws for the NIKON MOUNT so they are a few weeks away from shipping with Torx Plus.

Hey Brent,

I have a Nikon mount with Hexs, any idea where I can order a set of Torx Plus? I did ask my rep at RED for some but nothing ever came of it.

Ian,

You just stuff the leads into their groove, and push the connector into it's recess with the wires stuffed around it. Mine fit very nicely.

Ed, you can PM me with your mailing address and cameras number(s) and I will mail you out TP ones for the NIKON MOUNT when they are available in a few weeks.

Also, since we are on the subject, make sure you take extra caution to not pinch this wire when switching mounts. Pinched wires are never a good thing and can lead to other issues...

I am going crazy trying to find this Torx plus bit, I took your exact measurements to 3 hardware stores and all of them did not have anything I was asking for and just pointed me towards these T10 driver which I know its not going to work.

I have a shoot coming up and this little problem is starting to become not so little for me, I think RED should supply the proper bit in the future kits. Still on the hunt for TP10 driver.

Try Grainger. google grainger NYC

There are several locations and phone numbers in NYC.

McMaster Carr has Torx Plus drivers in stock (L-key & driver style).

http://www.mcmaster.com

Type page 2797 into the 'catalog page' field and scroll down toward the bottom. IP10 L-keys (3726A27) are under $3, driver style (5259A15) is under $5.

McMaster is a great resource for many different hardware type items.

Yeah I will just order from McMaster then cause Grainger and several other places I have called in the city say they have to order this driver anyways. :(
