ROCKETCINE-X Bugs, Comments, Help...

Hey all - workin' with a Rocket in an 8 core 2.93GHz Mac Pro w/12GB RAM, is FAST! Very happy with the work you're accomplishing, Deanan, and how quickly you're responding, so please take this as the constructive criticism it is intended as. Reading through this thread, I've seen many of these issues listed, but I didn't have time to go back through and pick out which have already been addressed. A lot of these are obvious, but I wanted a complete list for myself.

Here's bugs/issues I've found so far:

INTERFACE ISSUES, starting from top left:

File Menu - no open or save - can't save sessions!

-Chroma Denoise - not functional at all yet - greyed out
-Debayer Detail - greyed out, not usable
-OLPF Compensation - greyed out, not usable

DRX - greyed out, not usable

Set White Balance - button doesn't go back to grey after use

Resolution control - defaults to 1/2+, I'd prefer that it either default to Full or just remember what was used last

Single/Multiclip Mode - doesn't seem to do anything!

Histogram - doesn't respond during playback, only on stills (but turns grey to indicate, fair enough. Be nice if it were live though!)

Looks have many issues:
1.) You can save them, but you can't apply them
2.) They don't save from one session to the next - if you quit, they are gone forever

Render:
-very nice that can save presets, but having the target folder in the preset is very cumbersome, because
-can't edit a preset after made, only delete it
-great that the QT dialog is supported for more control, but the scaling controls don't work - when I output to 1080 with Maintain Aspect Ratio Using Letterbox or Crop....it doesn't work - just kicks out 1920x1080 and stretchs the results

Would prefer a different section for destination selection and options, isolated from Render Settings.

DPX output seems to ignore scale - I requested 1920x1080, got 2048x1024 for the DPX. This is the only DPX scaling test I've done so far, very preliminary.

TIFF: likely same scaling problems?
-output of some sizes, like 2K anamorphic, when requesting 1920x1080, you get a square. More on this later - guessing it has to do with file sizes smaller than 1920x1080 or something - 3K anamorphic outputs as expected.

-in the Batch list, need Cancel All and Remove All options. Removing from the list is verrrrrry slow - deal killer

need window burn options! Redcine did this nicely. Can't use for production of offline media for clients until it will do this.

BIGGEST ISSUES IN ORDER OF PRIORITY:
-need proper scaling to work when request 1920x1080 with letterbox, or 720x480 with letterbox
-need windowburn
-need Open and Save of sessions

until the above 3 are addressed, this is not production usable

Looking forward to the next build!

Respectfully,

-mike

Hey Mike,

Sounds like you're having trouble with looks. Mine save from session to session, day to day and I can apply them to 1 clip or 600 clips at the same time.

Maybe it's a privileges issue where you aren't able to write the preferences?

It's kinda hard to respond to a long list like this.
Letterboxing... coming
Windowburn... coming
Sessions... coming

The support related questions is best done over email...

Mike,

I had the same trouble you describe with looks on a fresh install of RocketCine, build 566. Try installing build 491 from the release history page on the Red support site. Then install 566 on top. That fixed it on my Mac Pro.

So we're running RocketCine-X on a Mac Pro that's connected to a SAN using XSAN. The latest build will let us save the presets and they load when we restart the application, but we're still not able to use Looks.

As far as I can tell, they should be created in the ~/Library/Application Support/Red/ folders, but when we create a look, it doesn't show up there. Also, we can't apply that look to any other clips and when we restart the program, there aren't any looks there.

Any suggestions?

I would add a minor UI gripe to Mike's list. It really needs keyboard shortcuts for Open Clip (obviously cmd-o) and Open Folder (shift-cmd-o).

Can you check the permissions on that directory?
Which build are you using?

Anyone else seeing this issue?

422 is using the restricted range at the moment but it looks like some people want restricted and some want full so we're seeing if we can add an option for both quickly.

I can write to the Application Support directory in the User's home folder. But the user isn't an administrator. Using build 566.

What folders should I have access to? Do I need write permissions to the applications folder?

The older builds were putting it in
/Library/Application Support/Red/RocketCineX/LookPrefs

Great, thanks for the reply! The ability to choose would be wonderful. What is dual-link using? I don't have a 4:4:4 waveform to check. Thanks.

Just wondering, is it possible to downgrade firmware?

Love this thing, much easier on my system....shame though the old Mac Pros like mine can't take full advantage of it :(
