I've got the older ones from 2008...
The guy at the apple shop was telling me that it can't do x8 although i was telling him it could...according to the expansion slot utility its not running at maximum speed...

He said he tried switching between the x16 and the other 3 slots and got nothing...so in the end left it in slot 2 as i requested...

EDIT:

I can get it running at max but at the expense of my graphics card...
its either x8 x8 or x4 x 16 not x8 x16....

Ah right, the graphic card.

Yeah..I'm running the ATI one...Kinda a bit of a slot hogger but it seems to be doing the job...given now my Mac Pro has actually gone to hell and needs to have the OS etc. re-installed...

Error decoding Frame 1

Error decoding Frame 1

Hi there,

i always get an "error decoding frame 1" message on every X-th quicktime i am trying to export (ProRes or Avid DNxHD).

Is this sth. no one else is experiencing?

I hope this has sth. to do with my setup and not with the software, so i can fix it myself...(Mac Pro first gen., 8 core)

cheers
Timor

Timor, Don't worry its happening to me also, on more then just one of the clips and it differs every time, spoke to Deanan about it and they are fixing it soon...

Edit:

Is it only just frame 1? or different frames?

I used to have different frame errors, recently only frame 1 though...
Maybe because i am trying Decklink 10bit RGB 1080 50p now, which is not a standard combination...(some work though)?
I´ll have to try with avid und prores again to make sure it´s related to that.

I´ll let you know how it goes.

Once this is fixed we will be able to use the Rocket in production, so far i´d rather use red rushes to be on the safe side. It´s fun to play with it though!
I wonder why RED isn´t releasing a Red Alert version which supports the Rocket? Who needs a nice and shine interface from cine-x if you just want to get the job done (quicktimes for editing for example)?

We would have to rewrite 80% of redalert to take advantage of redalert's speed. So we sorta did that but now we can also release a windows version.

If you're having a problem, please send me an email with the log file and anything else.

Hi,

i'm working with Timor and it seems like i've found our problem. Wasn't RedcineX, it seemed to be some read-/write-permission problems in our SAN.

Althought i have one clip with the same error message "Exporter unable to process frame: 0" it seems like the Rocket is doing what it's meant to do: to blast out one clip after another. :nads:

Thanks so far - till now everything looks nice and shiny ;)

Greetings from the a starlit, warm Berlin summer night... at the office :glare:

Feel free to email me any more details you have. (deanan - a t - red)

I will.

Seems like we're still getting a lot of errors. I'll mail you the program log and some screens of our settings tomorrow.

Cheers. (Timor told me not to use "Greetings" anymore... earthlings! :conehead:)

Deanan,

Thanks for all your help getting me up and running with 4k (scaled to 2K) full de-bayered playback. It's incredible to watch our dailies at this quality in real time. For those who haven't had a chance to see this yet, find somewhere you can check it out, it's a real treat. Post will never be the same again.

BTW, all levels of ProRes are transcoding faster than real-time. I know MichaelP is on vacation, but I hope Avid is on the case here so Avid editors can reap the benefits of the Rocket too, as transcodes to DNX are essentially the same as with RED Rushes. (with the exception that they're full debayer, if I'm not mistaken)

Every build adds more features and functionality Can't wait to see the next one. Your efforts are sincerely appreciated.

Things that I'd like to see

Things that I'd like to see

As much as I love watching the real-time dual sdi out on my monitor, I think the software needs the minimal functions to be used in post-production.
Here's some of the first things that I'd like to see implemented into Red Rocket in near future:

1. "Fit Height" option on export setting. This should be coupled with the pixel aspect ratio control for square to non-square export such as 720x486 export.

That's about it for now for me :)

Little things which are a bit uncomfortable:

1. When I hit spacebar to playback after manually input any settings and hit enter, it zero-out the numerical setting that I just adjusted instead of playing back the video.

2. I'd love to see Thumbnail view of the clips in the browser window. Something like Redcine.

3. Is there a way to dead-center the picture with one stroke of a key or mouse button after panning on a picture? "Fit" option doesn't do this for me.

I will give more thoughts as I play with it. Currently, RR is just wow'ing me with it's ability to show me the picture on my grade monitor. Not that I don't love it, but I can't wait to put this thingy in use.

Cheers and no sleep for you, Deanan ;)

Fit height will be in the next build.

Double click in the player to reset the view (fit). Or do you mean just center the zoom and not fit?

Hey Guys,

A small issue with the rocket, I don't wish to cause a fuss with support in case it's something silly first, egg on face and all that. I have some files that are not able to be played once transcoded, like the issue when the files don't 'close', the mac reports it is 'not a movie file'. The thing I have noticed is the transcode shows no dimensions or duration. This is a commonality between the four files I have so far withnessed displaying this behaviour.

Anyone else come up againgst this? I tried re-transcoding but same deal. I went back and isolation the correct file in the rushes and it shows nothing unusual, all proxies present and playing and R3Ds intact.

No problems with silly questions here.
If you email me with more details (deanan @red), I'd like to figure out what's happening and maybe see if it's those particular files that are funky.

Strange one. I haven't found that. I have had a few files that had errors, but always worked when I tried again. Have you tried setting an in/out point to see if the middle section will work? Does the file work in Red Alert/Red Cine?

Thanks Deanan,

It was a transcode to 2k 10 bit Unc. I'll look for where I put the file and ftp it for you to look at. I'd be interested to find out whether it's finger trouble so I could avoid it.

Thanks Jim,

Moving the in's and out's is a good idea and it was the first thing I tried as I wanted to load another session in Rocket Cine and transcode some other material and need to close up the session. I had spent some time grading, I've stored the setting so I can go back.

I'll reload it later today if I get finished on this project and recheck it.

Thanks for your comments.
